can anyone help, i have an early rhd 1982 ur quattro (85DA900616), analog dash, one peice lights and windscreen wipers on the wrong side, my problem is that the car has had many owners and came to me after sitting in a feild for a couple of years, it had been dismantled and resprayed (not very well) then put back together very hasterly, i have managed to piece it back together but a few pieces were missing and so i sourced them from different places. i have got hold of an injector blower with clowling, but am not sure whether it should blow all the time or is it on a theromstat or something and should only kick in now and then, also will it make much difference if its not running at all? Also i'm not sure whether or not the diff locks are working, there is a lever in the centre console that pulls in and out it is attached to a pipe that runs to some sort of pump on the side of the engine and then there's four pipes that run back to the diff, there are two green lights that are supposed to tell you whether the locks are in or not, but i can not be sure if these work or not. should i be able to hear them engaging or is there any way to test the system? if any ones can help or has any pointers it would be much appreciated.

The best thing you can do right now is go to www.quattroforum.com where you will find people who really know their stuff, or can put you in touch with genuine experts who know Quattros inside out.

I won't even attempt to offer any advice as I know nothing about the early ones.

Best of luck.

As to the injector cooler, this works on a thermostat and only kicks in when called to, it very rarely started on my MB, unless i had been thrashing it to within an inch of its life.

A chap local to me called Rob (quattrobits@hotmail.com) frequently breaks quattros of most vintages; he hangs around on RS246 and quattro forum also I believe.

Drop him an email if there are odds and sods you require.

Join the quattro ownwers club (http://www.quattroownersclub.com) and then talk to, and go and see, Roger Galvin at the Quattro Workshop near Lutterworth (J20 of M1). (http://www.thequattroworkshop.co.uk)

Roger is the tech secreatry of the qoc and also makes his living from fettling quattro; he knows way more than most about these cars and is the only pewrson that I trust to work on mine.

Injector cooling fan only runs when told to do so by a thermoswitch which lives on the wastegate heatshield on the top of the engine at the back of the cam cover. Short the wire to earth and the fan should run. I've got a late WR and it only ever runs when it's a hot day and you've been enthusiastic. If stationary for a few minutes the heat soak sets it off.

Can't help with the diff loc's I'm afraid as mines got a later version on. Come over to the quattro forum and ask there - theres more knowldgeable people to ask there.
