Have been sitting on the fence for a while now...just need the big push! Presumably speccing a new one is daft as there seems to be a lot of cars at the 30-35K mark at the moment with lowish miles and decent spec (for £10K less than new)
What will the future hold for depreciation I wonder? They are fantastic cars, but boringly iI do need to take this all into cosideration!

Quite fancy Alpine white....

Great wheels? 19"?

Think the CSL wheels look superb also on the Z4M.

they are a great car, great handling and fun but the build quality is poor and the ride/comfort is even worse, loved mine for the 8months I had it but simply couldn't wait to get out of her after a 2hr drive, if you do any sort of mileage look elsewhere, if not do it

I found a set of H&R springs calmed the everyday ride down (ie: on the road) quite effectively. It was rather choppy out of the box...

I've done 5 hour drives to the 'Ring and felt fine in mine, so I guess it depends on your level of tolerance. But I wouldn't say you couldn't use this car as a daily driver (and have been using mine as such for the last three months).

I have heard the ride is a little harsh. Having said that I currently have a 993 turbo which is pretty firm. Just fancy a change from the Porsche experience.
What are your views on white for the Z4M...seen one at BMW Wilmslow, good spec, for a fiver under 35K. They'll hold it for me with a small deposit.

Had mine since May 07, did 20.000 miles on weekends, holidays and long business trips. Unlike one of the guys above, I think comfort is very acceptable: it's meant to be an old skool sports car, not some warmed over GT/SUV/MPV crossover thingy with 'sporty' pretence. I drove back from Italy twice in May and September in one go without any trouble with comfort. As a daily workhorse I have a LR Disco 3, which is really comfortable, the Z4MC has a different purpose.

It's raw and raucious, with a gem of an engine and fantastic handling. IMHO the build quality is fine, only the materials let it down, hence the price difference with a Cayman or a 911. Only gripe as far as I am concerned are the brakes (which are fine on the road but not up to any track stuff) and the small tank. My 'normal' range is around 250 miles.

I don't worry about depreciation. Fast and/or expensive cars cost money in maintenance, tyres, fuel and depreciation. If you want a safe bet, buy a low mileage Porsche 993: around zero depreciation. If you want a pleasantly quirky pocket rocket, which can give the default Porsche 993/996/Cayman a run for its money, do the Z4M.

I love mine to bits!

My car was the best spec I could find, a smidge under 49k new in Mar07, had 261miles on the clock and I effectively paid 33k for it in June, I was lucky to get out of the car for what I did last week, but given some of the p/ex prices I was offered and the fact that some dealers didn't even want to touch it, I wouldn't pay any more than 32k for any current car, they are not easy to shift so if you want one bargain really hard and only get the best spec and deal you can.

The ride is not harsh, it's just uncompromising really, it's a brilliant brilliant little car, great fun and always put a smile on my face, but very comrpromised in alot of areas, it's not practical enought to be a proper daily IMO but too practical to be a sunday stick in the garage type car, sort of in limbo. The brakes are just fine, I had 60 laps around Brands on wed and they are fine, pad and fluid upgrade is all that's needed to make them shine

Check out recent posts by sixspeed for pictures of his Z4MC in white - it looks stunning IMO and definitely the colour i'd go for!!

Personally, I really like alpine white, but not sure if I have the balls to buy alpine white. Maybe thats just me being boring tho but I just feel it may be a little harder to shift

Why do people always say "It's nice, but the ride is harsh"? The ride seems fine to me, although my previous car was a Cerbera which really was harsh. But people don't say that Cerberas are nice "but the ride is harsh".

Personally I do like the ride to be firm -- I think part of the perceived problem with the Z4MC is that you're not sitting in the middle, you're sitting near the rear axle.

Exactly my point. I think that many people think that a 5-series with an 'M-pack' is a sportscar or an A6 S-Line with air suspension.

The ride is fine. Just came back from a 500+ trip. What a car! Great on the motorway and off and not a back ache in sight (I'm 6' 4&quotwink. The more I drive this car, the more impressed I am. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend you buy one.

This might be a stupid question, but why do the Z3Ms hold their value so well? Will the Z4Ms do the same?
