Morning folks, after some advice/help in identifying the culprit of the noise which developed this morning on my 110k mile 94 Golf GTI

Only appears to be coming from the offside rear and is making a nasty grinding and clocking noise when cornering left and or when on rough road surfaces.

Car appears to drive/handle fine and brakes straight although if you brake very hard a similar grinding/clonking noise occurs. Again doesn’t appear to affect braking performance. Had a quick look under car when got to work and nothing appears loose or damaged

Car MOT’d 10 months ago and received new rear discs pads/carriers and has been fine up until now having covered 10K miles since.

Any thoughts, opinions, advice gratefully received.

Cheers

My son had loose driveshaft bolts on his Mk 3 Golf GTi 3 months ago, that made a nasty noise, torqued them up now no problem.

Could also be wheel bearing or CV joints.

Many thanks, Chap at work just suggested drive shafts, could have sworn the noise was coming from the rear!

Rear wheel bearings on my old Mk2 gave up about that mileage, although that was more of a drone than a clonk. Would have turned into a grinding if I'd ignored it I'm sure.

Your description did make me think wheel bearing - clonk could (I suppose) be a combination of bearing and top mount?

Jack the car up (corner at a time) and feel for forward/black twist in the wheel (bearing) up/down twist in the wheel (bearing/balljoint if on front) and up/down play in the strut (top mount).
