Anybody know what the steering pump output pressure on a Griff 500 is, and does the rack get full pressure or is it regulated?

About 75 bar - the Rover PAS pump is rated at that. It gets the full pressure from the pump. I measured mine when the casing rack casing split and I didn't know whether it was a rack issue or too much pressure.

Thanks Steve, a reply I got on another forum suggested the relief valve would sort out any over pressure, is there is a pressure relief valve in the Griff system?

No I wouldn't rely on that at all. Too much pressure will blow the seals. There is a mechanism so that the fluid returns when it is not needed but there is no regulator that reduces the pressure. If the pressure is too high, it will take out the seals or worse split the rack.

HOW MUCH?! Is that right? That's almost 1100 PSI. Seems a bit much for a vane type pump; would not 7.5 bar be more like it?

Nope... pump is rated at 75 bar and I used a 0-400 bar pressure gauge to measure it.

Sounds right, the pump I'm looking at is rated at 1200 psi that's close to 75 bar (1102.5 psi at sea level)
