Got a new A8L if that is any help. Love mine, full of toys and uber comfortable. Loads of leg roomin the back due to lwb. Heard that a chipped 4.2Tdi will run rings round the V10 though.

In the real world nowhere close to the V10.

The 4.2 TDi is brilliant in it's own right, but not in a straight comparison with the S8.

I had one of the launch models, amazing piece of kit. got banned in germany driving. they are amazingly thirsty though but a great buy second hand with depreciation akin to a smoking spitfire falling from the sky

what MPG did you get john? i was looking for a new one, it was one of these or a merc S63, but i think the S8 better finished off. ive heard of one in cherry black colour, any one heard of it? good/bad?

Cherry Black pearl effect is stunning - I was in the Audi Exclusive boutique at the Audi Forum in Ingolstadt in September, and they had a 4.2TDi Sport with this colour and grey leather piped in cherry black in there.

My R8 had to go in with a gearbox problem and Vindis gave me a new S8 for just over a week. It was a surreal experience to say the least.... Very very quick and that V10 makes it sound like a dragster. All felt a bit wrong though... You just don't expect to go that fast in a luxury saloon! Fingerprint ignition system is clever. Who cares about fuel consumption, least of your worries if you're blowing 80k on a car!
