OK Another Dilemma. Wait. Ferrari. Gallardo.
Discussion
With the new Noble taking so long I've been thinkging about a second-hand Gallardo.
But at £80 - 100K for a good one I might not have it long enough to make it worthwhile (am I mad?).
So .. I can buy a very well looked after 9 year old 550 maranello for about half that.
My options:
a) Just keep my marvelous car.
b) Sell the car. Buy the G and forget the new Noble.
c) Buy the donkey and keep it until I can have the new Noble, decide then whether to buy a lambo or the Noble.
With the economy looking weak a and c look best to me.
What would you do?

B....all day long.
New Noble is going to be ages away..you will take a far bigger hit come sale time on a new noble, compared to a used G.
Plus the G is just a far better looking and sounding car (I know it wont be as fast as the Noble).

I'm still wrestling with the Lambo ownership or car club borrowship dilemma.

Weights 1.35 tons actually
I want one too!! For some reason though I think to have a car like that you need to have the nice house and double/triple garage sorted first. My semi with single lean-to garage doesn't seem like the place a lambo would want to live.

If you want a Gallardo go for a later spec car with manual gearbox.
I had an early car and it had ludicrously long gearing, seats that crippled my back, a crappy semi-auto box, and the nose was way too low to get over even modest speed humps! I think all these points were addressed with the later cars. They do look the dog's danglies though

12 months & 7k miles of smiles in an e-gear spyder, not a single regret and loads of great memories.
Loved the Noble (18k miles or so), enjoyed the 360 (but the ride/road holding was not awe inspiring) the whole lambo ownership experience has been worthwhile.
06 model onwards for the noise, performance & warranty!

That's the problem I'm having after driving in the 550 my back is sore and I only spent 40 minutes in the car.I had an early car and it had ludicrously long gearing, seats that crippled my back, a crappy semi-auto box, and the nose was way too low to get over even modest speed humps! I can't help thinking the G is going to crash in value over the next 6 - 9 months wheras the 550 will probably stay stong.
The 550 is something I've always desired.
So maybe 12 months in the 550 then new noble OR a good G is the way to go. But then there is the seat issue, will check that with a longer drive.
Or just keep the Noble, every drive is a joy and only a new GT3RS has come close to replicating the experience.
Not rich, decisions loke this have to be vaguely practical as well as emotional.
Truly appreciate your comments and thoughts.

The seats are perhaps the worse thing on early cars, but unfotunatly they haven't really improved. I was happy to give back my Spider after 3 days solid hooning in it!NickyTwoHats said:

If a 550 makes you sore, you'll be killed in a Gayardo IMHO.That's why I really think the ecurie route is the correct one. It's half a years depreciation on any of the cars you are talking about, and I took out 8 different cars last year.
JC did a far better write up than I did here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Can you imagine anything better value than for checking things out?!?

There is alot to be said about 'owning' a car as well as driving it...!
You mean depreciation, servicing, tyres, insurance, road tax, somewhere to keep it, washing it, checking the oil, etc, etc, etc....?
To the OP: If your not tempted by the Ecurie route (other car clubs are available
) then it'd be 550 Maranello all day long. Makes most financial sense & more fun to drive than a G.Twerlie said:

I agree. The whole having to book ahead and collect/drop off the sodding thing puts me right off! Not sure a G car at 80k would lose 12k or whatever ecurie costs over a year either, although depends if paying both sides of dealer spread I guess and how much servicing is needed.Gassing Station | Noble | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
