What % of your ownership time has car been in garage repairs
Discussion
Mine's near the end of (another) 2 month stint in the garage for work. I'm pretty sure it's spent 80 to 85% of its time with me in the garage for work/repairs. I will admit this is mostly because it hadnt been properly looked after by previous owner(s). Just curious what everyone elses experience is as regards the percentage of time you get to have it on the road, and whether this taints the experience for you.
Who else is currently going through a long wait while she's garaged?

I know the feeling, i've had mine for about six months and has been in the garage for at least a month trying to get all the little bits and pieces sorted. No major work has been needed but the garage is so busy everytime I leave it there i'm never sure when it will be back.
My reason for buying when I did was to hopefully get everything sorted for next summer as i'm not too bothered about it being in the garage over winter, so fingers crossed next time it returns it will be for a few sunny months

No time at all but I had the opposite car to yours. Mine had been exceptionally-well looked after by the previous owner.
Snap. Apart from a service and some preventative work I had done (new shocks, rad, stainless water manifold etc), well that's what I told the missus, very little.Probably high for me too although the only time it was away was for a service and that took only a day, the rest of the time it's been off the road is for my tinkering time or waiting for a cheap gearbox to appear.
Weird that 3 have been on ebay in the last 2 months, there were none from July to December. Guess that's winter for you.

Had mine over a year now and apart from servicing its been in once, for a week to have some clutch seals done.
Now I personally dont think that that is above average down time. I dont think the car has proven to be in any way unreliable during that time. The car has never let me down. It has never not started. I dont spend every weekend underneath it either. I check the oil and water regularly and get it serviced just before it actually needs it.
Now will those F**kers who look for every opportunity to knock the reliability of these tremendous cars please just F**K OFF !

My cars just passed 30K. Last garage service was four years ago, since then its been home schooled. Its never broken down in that time to require a garage.
It was off the road three weeks while I was doing the full service once because I was being a perfectionist, apart from that its always been functional on weekdays
.
So I guess you can say never. The only time its spent at the side of the road was a throttle cable mount broke its casting and the car managed to get home by trapping a pound coin under the throttle stop. Five minutes with a welder later and the car was fit to use again.
So I guess you can say recovery from the side of the road cost a pound.

Got mine in June 07' with 48k on the clock
Had a service done as soon as I picked it up and went the whole summer with only the lower steering column UJ needing replacing.
September managed 30 laps of the Nurburgring and returned without skipping a beat.
Went into Dulford shortly after for a service which was a bigun' (cams, wheel bearings, etc) but took less than a week.
Mid November Oulton Park, p/s failed, or so I thought. Turned out rack and p/s pump were both at fault - Dulford once again sorted this very quickly after having the AA dump it on them.
What did take some time was getting the temp/oil gauge back from the people calibrating it, so I ended up without the Cerbera for 7 weeks through no fault of the garage.
Just had to replace the battery (HOW MUCH????) looking forward to the weekend when she'll be at Santa Pod flexing some muscle and the Nurburgring again in March.
As you can see, it doesn't get an easy life either.

Will all of you lot who have stories of never been off the road, only spent 50 pence on an air freshener etc.. please stop it. It really hurts you know
Alternatively, how about joining my newly conceived Cerbera Co-Operative? Basically you all poor money into a high interest account, which can be drwan on for genuine Cerbera emergencies by any of it's members, sharing the burden of ownership
I feel another speed six versus AJP8 bun fight coming...

Had mine since July 07. It turns out it wasn't looked after as well as was claimed. Put it in for repair in Oct, had refurbed steering rack, Gaz golds all round, two new front tyres, cambers set up properly, and S/S brake pipes. It's been in my garage for a month now whilst I wire brush down and waxoil the chassis, which I am pleased to say is not looking too bad at all, I am also trying to find where water is coming in on the engine bulkhead.

Sorry, but I think that more of The Lucky Ones should be more vocal.
...Reading PH before I bought mine almost put me off the purchase and that would have meant missing-out on one of the best motoring experiences I've been able to enjoy.

It's true that the amount of negativity can get on your tits sometimes but, given the amount of helpful aid that it creates on this sight, I think we should all learn to live with our luck. Now will those F**kers who look for every opportunity to knock the reliability of these tremendous cars please just F**K OFF !

Apart from anything else I often read that long delays are due to lack of parts or incompetance on behalf of the technicians - Again, no reason to blame the vehicles.
