I am at a cross roads. I would like to go to a Kinsler EFI with eight intakes on my LS motor. This change would get the air filter and throttle body out of the way so that I could put a proper x pipe on the exhaust. Plus the I.R.s look way better and the air filter would be right behind the top air intake. Any one done this yet?

Hi, I am running the Kinsler set-up on my LS1. The engine is standard other that the LS6 cam shaft and up-rated oil pump. When Kinsler made the manifold I had to specify the type of heads (I have cathedral style heads ports on the LS1

I use an OMEX ECU as it runs with the standard LS crank sensor (AND it uses all the standard LS engine sensors).

The manifold from Kinsler is a work of art!

At the Autosport show Jenvey had a cross over LS manifold on throttle bodies.

Neil

Neil Thanks for the response I have seen the unit from Austrailia its just not as pretty as the Kinsler stuff. I am running a 383 cu in LS1 with a Motec system 525hp 565foot lbs. I was wondering did you go from the factory or fast intake, I have a fast with a 90mm body on it now. Anyway what does the beast drive like with the kinsler on it

Those intakes are better suited to large camshafts and high flow heads. The fast will flow 330cfm and the runners pretty much limited by headflow. So unless your heads need closer to 400cfm then just buy them because they look good.
My 2p based on shedloads of research smile

We have had FAST, LS2 & LS7 intakes on the flow bench, and they are approx 60 bhp behind a Kinsler set up in air flow.
We have also backed to back tested on the dyno with Mosler LS1's & varoius LS7's.
Basically, if it fits under a stock Corvette hood with a single throttle body, it drops a chunk of CFM off any LS head.

Depending on mods though surely there is better bang for buck looking at proper heads/cam/fast first rather than near stock engine with IR intake!?

Car up on stands with the engine / gearbox out. I will post photos shorly!

We have had the suspension analysis done. The rear wishbones mounting have been moved and we have made some changes at the front.

It’s interesting that with the modified Corvette (2000) winged we can run a flat floor.

Ultimately I need a starting point with the engine. I needed to buy an inlet manifold and throttle body: the old adage do it once, do it right!

Ringram and others: I didn't really go into the horsepower part of it but a 383 ls1 making 525hp on a honest dyno on 91 octane pump gas obviously has got some parts in it. My engine bulder has built this same motor for several clients and a truck that he runs in the baja 1000. His numbers agree with the one fellows input indicating that we are leaving some serious horsepower in the box by not running a Kinsler. My question stilll remains do any of you have some input as to the diveability of the car with the Kinsler on the street. I will make a comment about horse power again. I can see someone who has some time in the car on the raod and the track with lets say 500 horse power making a considered experinced choice to increase the horse power by 100 -125 hp. Or a well experinced driver with lots of time in cars with horse power to weight ratios of 4 to 1 going to those levels. the idea of someone without this kind of background thinking he or she needs 1000hp in a Ultima is ......stupid. All that will come from this is you will scare your self to the point that you don't like the car, and start blaming it for your problems or hurt you or someone else. Okay I'll get down off my rant now. Lee

Drivability is enhanced by all accounts due to the removal of reversion (depending on cam overlap etc) messing with the standard shared plenium. Plus increased throttle response.
If you have ticked most/all of the other boxes then go for it.

I spoke to some of the guys that build the gt40s in Australia. They have said that at certain throttle openings and load points they can sometimes see a cloud or vapour of air fuel mix in the air a couple of inches above the trumpets. This was mainly evident on a gear change. As soon as the throttle is opened again it gets sucked back into the engine.

You would want to be careful about this getting anywhere near the exhaust manifold

Once again, just what I have heard.

Further research might be necessary. I think there is a Renault F1 engine dyno video showing this.

That's fuel standoff.

It can be tuned out. Usually caused when running lots of overlap on the cam.

Running the injectors low in the manifold & using sequential helps.

Thanks for the technical name.
Most of the time they use Motec with sequential efi.

could be something peculiar to individual cars, there is fairly stringent requirements for emissions in Australia and most of the time they are put through their engineering testing with the standard manifold in order to make it simpler. They then get changed over later, so not sure on the settings. They seem to be very particular to individual tolerances and synchronising of butterflies.

Has anyone seen a V8 with individual Barrel throttles as opposed to butterflies? I have only heard about a 1.6 litre mx5 with 4 barrels outperforming a 4 butterfly setup.

not that i would love to see! roller throttle bodies on a V8! smile

do the GT40 guys not run fillters on the stacks?? also what thought to be the best length for the trumpets??

Chris.

Chris: While I was at PRI I met with Kinsler. They indicated that if I bought the system part of the deal is to send them a complete profile on the engine and that they will give me a graph with the different lenghths that could be used on a GTR and what the results would be. When I get to that point I will post thier response. Of course its only good for that one engine but I would thing that it would be of intrest to the group. Lee
