Oh dear....

"The EU should ban the sale of cars that do under 35 miles to the gallon, the ex-chairman of oil giant Shell says."

"Sir Mark said: "Nobody needs a car that does 10-15mpg."

Moody Mark said:
Eventually, old polluting cars would die quietly of their own accord.
But in the meantime, prices would go up as demands exceeds supply. biggrin

Didn't we have WWII to fight against this?

As Voltaire said: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"

I agree we all have a responsibility to climate and the environment but wouldn't they be better off trying to stop China, India from lighting coal-fired power stations? Even we're still building them: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politic

Just another load of drivel fed to an ill-informed public for the sake of popularity.

Why are you assuming that emissions have anything to do with climate change?

Pollution, yes.. climate change questionable.

They are talking about CO2 which is an emission from burning fossil fuels?

Interesting that he's now EX Chairman...

Don't suppose his job prospects would have been enhanced had he said that while working for a vast multi-national company who just happens to sell oil.. No doubt he'll be using his golden handshake to help the environment!!!

I am the only one that keeps getting questions about the new Low Emissions Zone? I have to explain that it doesn't affect me...

It seems forgotten that we CHOOSE to run these things - it's not forced upon us; and we already pay more for everything (fuel, insurance, tax) etc. It's OUR choice, not the EU's.

You have no choice. You are farmed for your tax payments. You have an erroneous perception of free will much like sheep do.
Fear not for the government will ensure that any free will is purged from your mind and system by means of propoganda and brainwashing. Schools are now pumping out idiots and imbeciles in their droves, in time nobody will think without asking permission for what they should think about.
I think its cheaper if the government just rapes me for my organs and sells them on ebay. Though they have probably already done that sort of cost benefit analysis and figure 80 years of taxes works out better in their favour.

Dont worry, this is not a rant, though I can rant pretty well too smile

Dunno about that like?

At my local cornershop you can get a 2 litre bottle of coke for £1.29 which means approx 64p per litre (versus 101.6p per litre of petrol) and you get a free plastic bottle.

Maybe you drink some ultra-posh coke that's £2 per litre and tastes of heaven?

Is it any wonder so many skilled tradesmen and professional people are fleeing these shores? Soon it'll be just those on benefits or in prison to prop up the economy. Run while you still can. It's not going to improve any time soon. I fear we are on a steep downward spiral, made only worse still by our Euro-brothers and Adolf Brown.

I'm not yet at the point where I'd change car for the sake of the climate, but my Monaro's awful MPG is causing twinges of conscience. Not to mention twinges in the wallet.

As my carbon footprint is 500+ times the national average I sleep well at night knowing that 2 of my cars total 11.7 litre`s between them.

(But I do turn off my computer)

the REAL reason they would like to ban cars that do less than [whatever]mpg is because these cars probably offend muslims.....

Carbon footprint ?

Mine is zero. I cant afford fancy carbon shoes, I just wear regular comfy trainers.

If all these people are so concerned about so called carbon emissions. The best solution is for them to kill themslves. Without question, that will have a massive effect on carbon output from them, for the benefit of all mankind wink
