I just thought I'd post this as you don't see them for sale very often. I know they both beautiful and woefully undervalued but I'didn't know they were at the £40k level, mind you it would cost you much more than that to have one restored. http://users.autoexposure.co.uk/classicdd.cfm?Acco...

I want one!

There needs to be a lot more information about that Series II to be sure of its value.

Lacking more information means that this blue car looks a bit too close 'ruddy expensive' but it would be nice to know otherwise!

Espadas SHOULD be that kind of money, some of them rather more than that. Series II owners would say they are the best variation of the Espada although owners of other variants would disagree (what a surprise!)

Recently, a Series I / II was rebuilt, remade, refurbished from a £7K crapper to a car that should be worth £45K at least. If this blue Series II sells for close to the asking price then that S I/II should then be a £55K car or more!

I saw a lovely restored red one make £30k at about Xmas time. I was hoping that HID had got the hint but it wasn't to be! http://www.legendsracing.co.uk/showroom.asp?Displa...

I have that edition of Supercar Classics hiding in the loft or perhaps under the spare bed...

Looks pretty good doesn't it - the Series II dash is probably the best of the three 'basic' forms and not all of them were without power steering!

It would still be interesting to get some more details of that blue car... if it used to belong to a chap called Walter then it's probably (still) a belter...

Do you know how many actually came into the country? It can't have been that many as it must have cost the same a a whole street in Leeds in those days.

Total Espada build (officially) from 1968 to (theoretically) 1978 was 1,217 cars (all versions).

...although there were probably more and probably more than 'just' Series I, Series II and Series III. As mentioned, a Series I/II car exists and has been seen at events recently and some of the final cars are more properly called Series III/IV or even Series IV.

In the very early 1990's, LCUK had an article about a twin-engined Espada that was to be built. It was in a newsletter dated 01.04 but some people still took it seriously! The tech. and engineering drawings of the car still exist, somewhere in the Club.

In the late 1970's, Lamborghini would build almost anything a customer wanted, as long as they paid upfront. Times were hard, industrial unrest in Italy rife and, well... not everyone wanted a mid-engined Lamborghini then. (Or even now come to that, imagine a 'modern' Espada or Jarama!)

I asked a car design student to have a go at a 'Nuovo' Espada a few years ago and printed pictures in a similarly dated LCUK magazine - people were too wise to it tho' and the car design student ended up working for Land Rover (I think!)...

As a very general rule o' thumb, approximately 10% of all Lamborghinis built would come to the UK and so, therefore not more than 122 Espadas have been here, in theory. Some left hookers will have come here as well although many rhd cars will have gone elsewhere to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or Japan - there's a near-UK spec. Espada for sale in New Zealand at the moment, for example, a rough looking car, but so what?

Some years the 10% rule was actually a very small number anyway (like any year in the late 1970's), so that 10% was no big deal. Recently that UK/rhd %age has varied more markedly - we clearly aren't buying enough Gallardos and Murciélagos in some years!

I can't believe there are as many as a hundred in the UK! How many are in the club? Or do you prefer not to say?

There aren't!

They will have been here at some time or other but far too many of them will have been smashed and/or separated for parts or just sold on to other countries other than the UK.

This applies to other older Lamborghinis as well, for example, there is a Jarama S in the USA that's barely moved in the last 15 years apart from an annual service and it's still on UK registration plates (red, cream interior, 'M' reg. as I recall - ie, a 1974 car or thereabouts) and there is supposed to be a 350 GT that belongs to an ex-member which has never been here at all...

According to my data (which may be mostly accurate!) there are currently at least 30 Espadas in LCUK of all Series and of all conditions! I can tell you that much but obviously not who they belong to or where they are!

of course - the blue one at the start of this thread is in addition to the Club's Espada fleet...

Spending so long unfancied by the market has made Espadas rare - rebuild costs have far exceeded the car value for decades. Many Espadas surrendered their engines to power boat racers as they were the cheapest means of getting hold of a Lamborghini V12 motor.

Espadas now seem to be pretty sharply polarised - they are either very nice, or "I'm rebuilding one in my garage" (repeat the last sentence annually ad nauseam).

More people seem to fancy them now so demand will get ahead of supply. Will be interesting to see what happens.
