I have just serviced my freelander and changed the diesel filter now it takes ages to start it used to be on the button now it can take up to 20 seconds and sounds like the engine is turning over with no fuel in it ?

I can only pressume that it is some kind of air lock but how do i get rid of it????

Sounds to me like the filter is taking in air at start up rather than an airlock. Once a diesel airlock is cleared, as in the engine is running smoothly after a filter change, you don't normally have a problem.

Bought a filter for mine at the w/e but not got round to fitting it yet. Was having a look at the system and just after the filter ie between the filter and the pump I noticed a 'squezzy hand pump type thing. It was hidden under the jack. Not knowing what it was I gave it a squeeze or 2 and heard fuel swishing around. Not sure if it is used to prime/suck through fuel especially when the pump in the tank should do the same thing. Do you have one and is it worth a try?

Good luck

The squeezee thing is to prime the filter I did that until fuel came out of the otherside
