Am looking to get this booked up soon having passed the theory this morning (am a bit worried about the state of the yoof, given the number of squalking kids outside the centre, it's not as it it's difficult...) so wondered if anyone could advise where to go for it?

I'm currently thinking Metropolis, as at £410 three day, £580 for give day they are cheaper than those I've found out in SE London, they offer a limited guarantee and I'm be training on London roads (I presume) so in at the deep end, but learning in the real world to me seems the best way.

Anyone used them at all, or is there anywhere else I should contact?

TIA

When you pass have a look at Bike safe but also it might be worth dropping Sgt. Michael Wallace mwallace@bikesafe-london.co.uk a email and asking for who is local and best to do your DAS with smile

A friend of mine did his training with Metropolis, only thing is even the instructors would advise you to steer clear of buying a bike from them.

Did mine with Dobles in Coulsdon. Excellent bunch of instructors - had the same one for the whole course, which helped, plenty of practice of everything, nice places for lunch, lots of route familiarisation for the test route, and a very understanding instructor for the last day, where we practiced all the way from Coulsdon to Greenwich for some eejit to go home and get the paper part of his driving licence thumbup

Sounds about the same price, to be honest, I wouldnt have thought anyone would do it much cheaper.

Thanks guys, looking forward to getting my full license though, hopefully should have a window in late March for that, so the weather will be better.

BTW I went against all the advice on here and picked up a 125 on Saturday, loving it to bits and getting some miles down - see what was meant about the lack of power though, got to sixty yesterday after a lot of work - was fun doing it though biggrin

Great idea, thanks Oggs.

Was in touch with him a few weeks back re: doing BikeSafe without full license, so will ask him now.

Got a response from a different chap at the Met and they've said they can't recommend any particular DAS school, as all should be certified to DSA standard.

What he did say is go and have a chat with them and ask what training they have beyond teaching DAS, as the further they are up the training ladder the more knowledge they should have to pass on...

To that end I've booked a days RoadRider (intensive on-road post CBT course) with Metropolis and will see what I think of that before booking the DAS.

Did my CBT at Southern Rider Training in Sidcup off A20

Going to do my DAS there too.

They were good, and very friendly and helpful.

Good luck

I did my DAS at Metropolis Vauxhall, don't know if they do training at their other branches?

It was quite good, the limited guarantee is actually quite limited, I think they basically offer free tuition on the day of your re-test, you still pay for bike hire & test fee (or maybe it's free re-test but you pay for bike & tuition - can't remember!), it's around £110-£120 I think. After that you're on your own and it's £170 odd for the whole day.

The instructors were all good lads too. They actually recommended not buying a second hand bike from them, presumably that was because it's a dealer and you'd never get anything near a "reasonable" price. New they said it's much the same as any other dealer.

I've actually found them OK for a new bike, it's my first one from them but I put a deposit down on a K8 750 just the other week from one of their other branches smile roll on March! (although I think I'm actually in the States when it arrives silly )
