Bringing it for a spin down a port road, was only there once with a mate and the tarmac was smooth as a babies bottom, this time evidently i missed a turn and hit a crater (in the Dark) . nearly spat me off the road it even launched the car into the air anyhow, i got out every thing seemed fine and i drove on the tracking was still perfect etc etc. went out this morning and the engine had dumped all its oil on the drive. looked underneath and nearly cried. the pathetic plastic sump guard was gone and i could feel a not so insignificant crack on the sump.

shes being towed tomorrow morning what else could i have done to it??? could i have damaged the box its dsg btw.

Sorry to hear, I wrecked my sump on a kerb by pulling up the dropped section to let an ambulance by a couple of years back - not a cheap repair if I remember

Many years ago I worked for a company which had a new car on which the underside/sump got crunched so hard it not only split the sump but also broke off one of the engine mounts on the crankcase.

The company successfully claimed for the damage on their insurance.

If the car did not grind to a hault on your way home you may be lucky it is just the sump and not the engine that is damaged from oil starvation. I trust you drove slowly and sensibly afterwards ? i.e. no hard cornering braking etc, but it really does depend on how much oil it deposited on your drive ? if it was like a river the next day good times if it was a small pool bad times as you will most likely have worn the pistons bores etc.

The DSG gearbox oil is separate from the sump, so it should be OK (from an oil point of view anyway).
