Hi,

I have this problem where i have removed the Tomtom software, and then tried to re-install from the website download, but get an error saying it is already installed.

I have tried searching and deleting any files left behind in program files etc., i have also used many registry cleaner softwares, but all too no avail.

Anyone else had this trouble??

Any tip??

cheers

I had a similar sort of problem recently and after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, TomTom emailed a solution process to me, which I don't mind passing on if you are prepared to take the risk. I say that because it involves re-formatting the TomTom, so at that stage you have lost everything. What have you got now? Does the TomTom work after a fashion, or is it basically dead? NB, this solution was for a TomTom GO 700. You don't say what model you have.

You also need to be sure that whatever it is you want to re-load is definitely there on the website, and available for you to download.

Hi,

It's actually the software on the computer, so i download it, try to install it and it says its already installed, the Tomtom it's self isn't actually plugged in at the time.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been away. You've lost me a bit, because the TomTom really needs to be connected to the PC most of the time. I'd try for that for a start, having installed the latest version of TomTom HOME 2. That way you should find out what you've got and where it is. Also, see if there any downloads on offer through TomTom HOME. The solution they sent me is pretty extreme, so I wouldn't try that just yet. When you disconnect the TomTom from the PC, don't just use the Device unplug (or whatever) at the top of the screen on the TomTom HOME menu, use the Windows one in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen (near the time of day) as well. If that doesn't want you to disconnect, close TomTom Home and any connection you might have to the TomTom website, then try again.

Oh, and if your TomTom is like mine, don't forget that it has a separate mains charger, which needs to be connected. Most sat-navs charge through the USB lead but my TomTom doesn't.

I have TT Nav6 running from my SD card directly. It never ever gets installed onto my PDA and i don't use TT HOME as it always f**cks up, and won't run properly on XP Pro X64. That way i avoid all of the issues i keep coming across from other TT Nav6 users. TT HOME IMHO is rubbish and causes all sorts of issues!!

By running TT Nav6 off your SD card all your original faves, recent journeys, voices, settings etc... are always backed up. Even if you do a hard reset on your PDA or transfer it to another device your TomTom will always be as per the last time you used it.

The only thing i install is TomTom today via the cab file copied onto the SD card, i then copy a shortcut from the Navigator file on my SD card into: MyDevice\Windows\Start Menu and MyDevice\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Job done!!
