Inside door panel removal

Trying to get my door panel off to access my window mechanism. Has anyone any tips for removal?

Assuming they are all roughly the same, there will be a couple of screws with colour coded caps towards the bottom of the door and press stud type attachments pretty well all around. The inner panel loops over the inside metal frame and it can b a pain to remove and refit due to the door opening mechanism. Its not a difficult job, no worse than any other door skin. From memory there is an additional screw or maybe a bolt which hold things together somewhere slightly unhelpful. I think I had to take to speaker out and reach inside the door skin a few inches to remove it..

On mine the most awkward part is a bolt at the front end of the armrest. The bolt is bonded to the door panel and there is a nut on the inside of the door that has to be undone from the inside. The only access is via the hole for the ashtray, and the hole for the speaker. Just to make things as inconvenient as possible the bolt is about six inches long so you're there forever spinning this pesky nut down the thread by finger tips. It's possible to get a socket on the end, but things get dramatically more fiddly once you've dropped your only 1/4" drive 7mm socket inside the door where it can't be retrieved until you get the lining off, which won't come off without the socket ...

You mean reach inside and remove a few inches of skin to remove it..

Put a rubber band around your wrist and tie the spanner to it with string to stop you from filling the door cavity with assorted tools.

Do yourself a favour, when you put it back together use a wingnut on the thread behind the armrest. Makes it a lot easier next time.

Thats the bugger.. I knew there was an awkward bit somewhere.. The elastic band around the wrist idea is a good one. Will have to try that sometime. Shame I didn't know about it before I lost both 10mm spanners inside the car somewhere..

Ok, only prop, how do I get the speak grill off? Reluctant to prise it off with a screwdriver as it will damage the door leather any easy ideas?

No worries sorted, afetr getting my hand in there I must say that is a porr design to have a 4 inch bolt sticking out with such a tidler of a nut on it. That most of been a joke when they did it.. No worries repaired my passenger electric windows. Chuffed!! Now just over side to do to ensure window fully goes up. Have about half inch gap left at top when fully up. Before go through the panel removal anyone else come across thsi before and have an easy fix that does not need removal of door panel?
