SECURITY ISSUES?
Discussion
Why do guys on here keep asking us to post "how to get into their car's?" for what ever reason.
IMO if you own one then you shouldn't need to ask.
But why would someone want the whole world to know through a web site?
Am I the only one who gets nervous seeing these threads, I think if any of us see a topic on this we should report it, and let PH decide to remove it??????

I think you are too paranoid, personally...
Breaking window / break hood guarantees any scrote entry, publishing the correct ways to enter a car which is reliant on 'odd' door locks is not going to affect that in the least. If they really want them they only have to buy SH's book anyway.
Security wise you have an alarm & immobilizer which should protect your p&j?
Always been a bit amused by the emotion that this topic arouses

So would you be happy to see a post on how to gain access to your boot for example?
Personally wouldn't bat an eyelid....It still does not help with disarming the alarm, the information which really should be guarded (which SH carefully avoids in detail IIRC). I would be more worried about a host of TVR's being assembled in Stockport as regards Insurance premiums.

I understand what you are saying but it would be incredibly naive to think that those that want to gain access to your car (or its boot) illegally don’t already know how to do it and generally don’t really give a monkeys if the inflict damage or not.
The requests on this forum are generally from people like myself, who have found themselves in a position where the normal access methods no longer work but they still need access. They don’t want to cause damage as they are the ones who will have to pay for it. Most ask to receive the information via methods other than it being published on the open forum and even those that don’t request this don’t object to being e-mailed directly.
Is one of the purposes of a forum such as this not to allow owners/enthusiasts a platform through which to request/share advice, hints and tips?
Would I be happy to see a post that explains how to gain access to my boot? I don’t really care either way! As stated above, I am sure that those that want to gain access illegally already know how and that the insurance companies have already taken this into account.

It really doesn't make much difference. If someone really wants to break into and/or steal your car they will do. All these trick emergency entry systems are no match for the stock street burglar equipment of half a brick / pellet of gravel vs side glass.
That said, years ago when the battery died on the Chimaera, I "broke in" to the cabin without damage and had popped the bonnet release in 15 seconds flat. Wasn't hard and didn't take much thought.
I wouldn't worry. Keep all valuables locked away out of sight or better still out of the car and park the car where driving or lifting it away would be difficult.

lets be honest, your local tea leaf is not going to ask here how to break into your car with no damage, he just gonna go in via the soft top isn't he?
i have a chimaera and i know how to gain entry to my boot, but don't know if there is a way to open doors easily. ill only ask when im stuck locked out most likely as till then, i dont need to know

Its quite important to realize that not all the cars are the same, TVR evolved different methods as the door locks were upgraded.. Keeping this information undercover has only confused IMHO... Eg, entry to the boot in my car will only get you into the erm boot! There are lots of cases where owners think every model is like their own - the variations are a real minefield to negotiate. This thread is only relevant to you T-Pot if you ever ask advice (when desperate) and are fed a load rubbish
Ignorance is not bliss, which is why I strongly believe these things should be documented here - the alarm / immob is what makes the car secure IMHO.Dave

I agree... imagine the scenario, local villan wants to steal TVR... just pops onto PH to ask how... somehow I think not... these people don't care about damaging your car... stanley knife is normally their chosen tool for gaining entry to soft tops. Totally agree, what a silly topic... It's a soft top for gods sake, its like trying to put a lock on a tent! Just don't leave anything of value in the car... No matter how you look at it, getting into one of our cars is never going to take more than a few seconds for anyone who really wants to. Starting it is another matter altogether though, and after chatting to an ex car theif while installing my alarm, i'm quite satisfied that it would take a fair bit of work to start one, even if you knew how to do it (which is unlikely for your average car theif!).
If you're that worried about security, get a dual stage microwave sensor for the car so that the alarm chirps even if someone gets close to the rear screen with a stanley knife!
