Probably a stupid question, but how is the service interval light on the dash reset? Thanks very much!

Electronically usually. If serviced at a main dealer they should reset it. If you use an Indy not all of them can reset the indicator. A local car electronics specialist can usually help. What area are you in?

based portsmouth/southampton area. Have an indy who is going to service it but just wants clarity on the dash situation.

Had similar problem on my A6 when an Indy serviced it. Had to get a local electronics guy in Gloucester to reset it, cost me a tenner. Depends what type of kit your Indy has. Apparently the Snap-on kit cannot talk to ultra modern VAG stuff

yeah i think that it what is required, he has a friend locally who can oblige. Basically in a nutshell its an electronic reset rather than manually on the dash?

Not sure then, but there may be a way of resetting by dashboard buttons. Sorry cannot be of more help.

There is a process using the trip meter buttons and ignition ky (it should be in the owners manual) however my experience has found that if your car is set to Longlife Service this will reset it to Time/Distance Service.

This is correct - if you use the manual reset, it will NOT come up variable service.

Ask the Indy - if he's any kind of VAG specialist he will have a VAGCOM which does this job and costs around 3 hundred quid - not much for a dealer and the VAGCOM does many diagnostics too. I have considered buying one with a group of friends and you can do the service yourself. If you can be arsed - new cars are a b1tch to work on I find. Need a hoist just to get to the oil filter usually.
