Hi all,

I'm moving in the next few weeks, and it looks like I'll have to start parking my T350 on the street (unless I can track down a garage to rent nearby). I suspect that I will have to have a tracker fitted otherwise I won't be getting insurance.

Can anyone recommend a tracker fitter in West London (Chiswick)?

Also, any recommendations on which type of tracker would also be appreciated. There appear to be a myriad of options out there.

Thanks.

I thought there were different companies producing trackers?? Not just one. Tracker, RAC, etc??

If the insurance company want one, I'm not gonna have much of a choice. The price for living in London I guess.

Hey to say I agree - for 4 months they refused to accept i had paid them for a years subscription - eventually resolved only after I sent them photocopies of my bank statements etc and threatened to involve anyone I could think of.

God knows what would have happened of the car was stolen in that period of time as my insurance had insisted on a tracker being fitted.

I wonder how many TVR's of the Tuscan onwards era have been stolen. I always considered them to be too outlandish for your car thief, inconspicuous they are not!!

I know, the fact is, if someone tries to nick my car, my exhaust is bound to wake me (and half the street) up!!

Still waiting to hear back on what the insurance company are gonna say - they might even say that they won't insure it at all, tracker or not! frown

Whatever happens, I guarantee it will be an excuse to put my premium up. And I was just getting used to reasonable premium as well. Oh well...!

Although i have a tracker fitted, i dont see the point really. If a professional nicks the car then the tracker will be found. If a joy rider nicks the car it will be crashed at the first corner!! What punky joy rider would be able to drive these things with cold tyres!!

How about the ones who broke into my house, then into my garage, and stole my Chim! With Cherry Bomb exhausts. Whilst i was asleep in bed!

They rode around in it, generated complaints to the police at 04:00, and then abandoned it to steal a Subaru. (well, it was wet and i suspect it was giving them hell). The car was recovered without too much damage, and is currently being brought back to pristine condition.

I'm definately getting a tracker fitted this time...

It would seem a good idea to put a manual (traditional) immoboliser on the car as additional security against having the keys stolen. A hidden switch somewhere would be enough to make the thief think the car dont work. In fact i'm going to do this tomorrow whilst the dash is in bits. thumbup

I think they silenced it somehow, perhaps with something with stuffed up the exhausts, as the neighbours told me it didn't sound like me driving!

Didn't have much time when I posted.

Their customer service is truly appalling. When I purchased the car I called them repeatedly customer sevices over the course of a week to re-register the tracker that was fitted. After wasting about three hours of my life on hold I emailed them, to which they eventually responded.

When they did respond, they were only too happy to take my money. I didn't get anything by post to verify that I'd paid.

I did get a renewal letter in the post about a year later. As my new insurance company didn't require the tracker, I decided not to renew the subscription. I called them about a week before the renewal date, miraculously getting through (I guess the renewals line is open to take money from people) to discover that they'd kept my previous credit card details and had already debited it without asking me.

I told them to refund the charge and cancel the membership. I'm still waiting. They won't refund the card and my bank are powerless to do a chargeback, as I previously given them permission to debit the card a year earlier.

I've given up chasing it now, as I've got better things to do with my time.

Should my car actually be stolen, I don't hold any hope whatsover of seeing it again!

I stand by my previous comment smile

Dont agree with your bank on this one. The premium was taken without your consent. Your renewal premium cant be taken until notice has been given and the renewal date is due within a few working days. Dont give up. I am fed up with being taken for a ride in todays world. Good luck. Jon.

Cobra Trak far superior in my opinion. GPS + GSM technology, you can even track it yourself on the web!

Second the Carl option. He has something which connects to the Meta system (xx800 from memory) which seems brilliant (he did explain it to me about 2 years back) and does much more than tracking, plus I recall only a small percentage of cop cars have the capability to find cars fitted with Tracker.

An RAC Trackster was fitted as standard on my old Impreza P1... as above, general consensus on the P1 forum was that they are useless... only get one if you have to (for insurance purposes) but don't expect any other benefit from it!!
