I have just bought a tool that measures upto 130 dB. im just wondering what the best way to test the sound level of my car. Do i just stick it near the exhaust? same level as the exhaust, or slightly higher?
When doing a drive by, how far away from the tester should the car be?

P.S. if anyone wants to test ther car, please feel free to message me. i live near north london.

At 0.5m from the pipe at an angle of 45 degrees at ¾ max rpm

Use an area with 3m clearance from any walls.

testing = friends ear 10cm from exhaust, the bigger the smile the louder it is, tears = too loud for track!! simple

well i did the test, and i got around 98dBs. but drive by (mate standing on the pavement) got about 90s dBS. not sure if that test was done accurate.

I doubt think driving past your mate on a public road is going to give any indication of the levels achieved on track.

i think you in doubt tongue out
it wasnt on a public, it was in a very quite area in the middle of no where. i just read the rules again, i didnt realise that the test had to be 20metres away. so i think im pretty cool.

let me know how you get on with the db meter, although the mates ear next to the tailpipe .. smile and tears for pass and fail test made me roar..!

Im not sure it will be accurate in neutral tho' the M3 really barks under load..?

I need to know if i can pass for under 98 db for some Silverstone summer evening events coming up soon..

Melindi.. have you got a list for stock cars and exhausts that can keep under the radar for these events...?
