Diablos - When is an SV NOT an SV?!
Discussion
Hi all...
If someone has added teh roof 'airscoops' and the appropriate wing - How can a mere mortal tell if an SV really IS an SV?
(and please don't just say drive it - it will be really fast! :P ) haha
Does anyone know anything about the Purple Diablo on AT?

Early spec. SV's had rather more Alcantara in their interiors, leather was a +cost option and a lot of the interior bits n' bobs were deleted as well - it was meant to be a 'lightweight' version of the Diablo after all!
Most were also fitted with the short stack gearbox (so faster off the mark but a max speed of 186mph / 300kph) and many of the UK spec. original SV's had those quite definite letters on the side and 'proper' SV wheels that were mostly painted black.
Crucially, the most important difference by far is this:
The Diablo SV - (of any spec. and any age) - was the LAST two wheel drive Lamborghini - any other car built by Lamborghini since then or at the time SV production started will be fitted with a four wheel drive system of some sort. This is either the VT system or the system fitted to Gallardos. It is possible to disconnect the VT system and remove it but that is 'just' a VT with the system deleted and not an SV.
Mind you, just changing body panels isn't that bad a thing, after all, a VT with SV panels is still a Diablo!

I agree with everything that David has stated above, however, for the layman, the easiest way to identify an SV against a regular Diablo is that all four wheel drive Diablos have extra vents in the front bumpers, just below the front driving lights.
This was to provide extra cooling for the brakes, and front diff, ( I think!) so you would have to replace the bumper with something similar to allow the same amount of cooling through.
The SV does have vents of a similar size, but they are fully open with no front fog lights.
No doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong.
Cheers,
Ruttboy.

My suspicion is that it is a RWD Diablo with SV bits...
It's on Autotrader from "Anniesland" in Scotland
Anyone who OWNS a Diablo have any preferences between those that are on sale wat the moment (and crucially.... why?)
My price range is from the purple one to the dark blue Roadster (if that was almost any other colour I'd be selling a kidney already!)

You can tell the yellow car is not an SV as it has the early 2wd cars' alloys, the rear wing is not an SV wing and it is a 1995 car (I stand to be corrected but I think earliest RHD SVs were 1996).It's on Autotrader from "Anniesland" in Scotland

I would speak to Carlo at Top Gear Cars or Dion Elms if you are serious about a Diablo - bought well recommended on here.

David I'll bow to your superior knowledge if I'm wrong, but weren't the GT and GTR the last 2 wheel drive cars built by Lamborghini?
actually Derek, you'd probably be right, although I think some '99 spec. SV's were after the launch of the GT - although, arrrrrrgh... no, you are probably right - probably... and is thy GT keeping well in this weather??Alan's simple answer to the original question was perfect - I really never thought of what could be looked at in just one picture to determine 'SV-ness' but then, finding a complex and long-winded answer just lets me be a windbag sometimes.
Any passing old-lags from LCUK land who don't look at the Club's bit of PH too often: I spoke with Del Hopkins today - he's well and enjoying Spain and the
20°C+ Spanish weather
although he said it gets cold very quickly at the end of the day though and I tried to sound as understanding as possible, really I did!

The dark blue roadster is mine, pm me for details

There are a handful of 6.0's that were two wheel drive, only one of which was RHD. I believe this was originally owned by a PH'r who I'm sure will be along to confirm (or Jonny5 will be
) Robin, when we were out looking for my F-car, you said that you'd have jumped on the Diablo Roadster we saw down at KHPC....i sense that buying off a well know PH'er is a better way forward than buying from a random AT ad....
be good to see you out and about in it too!
just my thoughts.............

It's a Purple 1991 RWD Diablo on sale at Top Gear.
I spoke to Carlo about it a few weeks ago and he said it was mechanically sound but had 'the usual Diablo cosmetic problems'. I asked if he meant stone chips but couldn't get a more specific answer than already given. I'm not suggesting or implying any deception so please do not think so - simply that I don't have much info to go on, so am curious if anyone knows the car?
Does anyone know if any of the cars on the market that I am potentially looking at here or on AT have 'stories' about which I ought to be aware?! If in doubt - feel free to e-mail me offline if you don't wish to say anything publicly
At present I have my eye on said Purple car as the one that has captured my imagination... The Silver SV as it is going to be a rocket ship and possibly the Pearl White one *if* it is a good pearl! (It looks like a stormtroooper should get out of it!)
I love the roadster and they are definitely cooler than big t1ts! ...but next to the purple I haven't been able to fall for the colour
(god knows I've tried!)

Anjum's car , resurrected at the '1-of-1' ex Hong-Kong-royal-family-sheikh-amari-crown-prince-of-strangeways-6.0-roadsterThe lhd scuro blue VT that TopGear have has been de-VT'd as mentioned.
I reckon Carlo will have been referring to features like the 'unique' fitting doors and front bonnets of Diablos built before 1999... they all have that added handbuilt style and a certain amount of 'not too precise' a closure about them.
The other VT he has is really a very sweet car - plenty of character and integrity to it, not to mention having once been washed by someone whose soaping and sponging skills are limited to slap the water on, scoosh it away again and that'll do...
OK, so that was me - doesn't have to have the blingy wheels either... and CMcC pays me now't for saying good things about the cars he has or even about him!
2wd 6.0 Roadsters... iirc, nothing like that was ever made in Sant'Agata - something 'reformatted' elsewhere and by elseones might exist but surely that would be almost unsaleable these days in the age of the 'allseeing' PistonHeads! - surely?

Wazza - your car is the sex! Keep it you dope! :P
Shut lines etc don't bother me a jot! I have an Esprit for heaven's sake!
If it's just that and some stone chips then the purple car could be a contender.
Anyone know how a RWD performance compares against an SV (ie the silver one!)
Im less interested in top speed so much as how it gets there!!!!

Hi there,The white Diablo is for sale at a dealer about three miles from my house.
I went over just before Christmas to have a good look at it and get some photos: -

White is a great colour and the Red interior actually quite suits the car. Not sure about the 'World Cup' inscriptions though.
Car has had a few mods from memory but would definitely be worth a look.
