Hello smile

Whats the general consensus regarding leathers with speed humps? Good or bad thing. Looking for a set and seen some I like but one has a speed hump and not sure I'd feel a tt, no offence to those who have speed humps. I'm not sure, is it like having a massive spoiler fitted to your Corsa? Basically I guess I want to know if I get the set with the hump, will you all think I'm a tt?

Cheers

just walk round going 'its the bells, the bells' hehe

do they really serve any point on the road? i know its aerodynamic, but how fast do you need to go for it to notice?

I brought a set last year and to be honest I slightly regret it as wearing a day sac (ruck sac) it pushes it around and does not let it fit properly, annoying on the Ace Cafe London to Brighton run.......

Depends what its purpose is, I suppose. If its just a sealed unit with a solid lump of foam in it that'd fall short of keeping your head straight if you lay on your back, then there's little point. If it's a properly vented system to push air down your back it can be a boon in summer and I believe some Spidi suits use the hump as a place to store a drink supplied through to the helmet but that just seems annoying.

I found out a few weeks ago that Alpinestars suits worn by Hayden, Stoner, Pedrosa et al contain analogue actuators in the bottom half of the hump to record telemetry of body movement.

So yeah, a solid lump is probably pointless but some of them do have their uses.

I got a set last year and regret it as you cant really get a fleece over them if its cold, just never thought about it. Do think they look ok though

Didnt think about it when I got the leathers, to be honest. You're power rangery when you zip up the one piece, so a small hump doesnt add or detract from that smile

Fairly sure it makes no discernible difference to the handling at any speeds I choose to go at, but thats an unscientific test, conducted using a rucksack with the hump (about -20mph) and no hump on the textiles (around about the same speed, but the perceived risk in my head was higher).

Would I get one on the next set? Maybe, but only if you could use the hump to store things like the waterproof top, and that made it useful.

They are suposed to offer some aerodynamic qualities and reduce drag and buffeting around the head, but I guess that only matters in racing, where everything matters, and particularly in the smaller engine classes.idea You can see how that would work from the pic.

Theres an arguement on offering some protection to the upper back, and theres truth to that, but then so do back protectors. You sometimes seem them used as 'camel backs' for endurance racing and in particular climates, but who goes hard at it for 45 minutes, on a bike! confused

But if you think it looks cool, thats the best reason. biggrin

I think it depends on what you have aswell?? For example, if you have a Hornet or Bandit or something along those lines and your riding around in a 1-piece race suit with a hump it may look stupid??
Just my honest opinion, although i think i may just have opened a can of worms!! biggrinlaugh

I've got a set of Alpinestars SMX 1 piece leathers. They were top of the range in 2003. They have all the 'exo-skeleton' type plastic armour, incuding a big hump. They do seem incredibly powerranger but the hump is a meshed vent and is great in the summer, especially when you're slowing down for villages etc. and then nailing it out - you get a big rush of cool air down your back, which is nice.

I don't like the look of them so much these days, they are about the most Power Rangery you could get then and A* have somewhat toned down their range since. Still wouldn't but any other make.

Oh, and the vented hump is fooking freezing in the cold weather...
