Subscription based PH without adverts

I'm wondering if there could be any consideration for a subscription based PH. I positively hate the new commercial adverts flying around the page. I don't want a credit card, loan, insurance or any pop out adverts irritating me. I never found the PH owned ads annoying as it felt as though it was part of the community but Marbles credit card certainly isn't, (and as a personal opinion, I hate credit card companies!!!)
I'm sure many other members would say the same and would also be very supportive to the following.
Two forms of membership:
One; Ad-funded membership. Perhaps a few less perks but essentially, their membership is ad-funded.
Two; Subscription based membership. £20 annual fee to use the site. I'm not sure if I've underestimated the value of my custom at PH, but I feel that would be a fair fee to charge and it's not OTT and I think most regular members would be happy to pay.
Is there any chance of this or am I just wishfully hoping!!!???

So rather than a bunch of crappy ads you're not likely to click on you'd rather put £20 into the pocket of Haymarket?
If this was still an independent site I might agree with you, but it's sold out to a large corporation, if they want to alienate the audience with stupid ads no one is interested in then it's their loss. Why do you want to make them richer?

I certainly don't disagree with advertising on PH. What winds me up is the new wave of animated & flash adverts. When PH is at an all time go-slow, these big, bandwidth intensive adverts most certainly aren't helping. I'd also prefer to see the adverts as being much more relevant to the community, however, it is a business, and the business operates partially on the advertising revenues.
That all said, i've become so despondent with those stupid animated adverts that i've downloaded firefox and adblock just for browsing PH.

I must say I'm a little concerned about the ad-blocking software that's so popular. I run an independent website that I simply wouldn't be able to afford if everyone used ad-blockers. What's the alternative? Subscription-based services are not the way to go for me, I don't like the idea of people having to pay directly for information and I feel it devalues the usefulness of the data if there are restrictions on who can use it or see it.
It's a real pity that advertisers produce such intrusive and annoying ads that people want to block them. They've shot themselves in the foot and potentially will take away a lot of usefulness from the web if it becomes impossible to keep a website up & running...

Only reason I run adblocker is because PH is almost completely unusable without it. If you have a site with a couple of quick loading, unobtrusive ads, I wouldn't bother blocking them.It's a real pity that advertisers produce such intrusive and annoying ads that people want to block them. As to a subscription... When it was Teds site, privately run from his pocket and reliant on the income, maybe possibly might have considered it. Now it belongs to haymarket, not a bloody chance!

That's a relief... I know they're toying with the idea of Flash-based ads, which would really upset me immensely. Let's hope they don't go there!hardly see any adverts, haymarket servers blocked with hosts file, when sites get really annoying tend to leave well alone, some of the competitor sites were mentioned in some other post, so fast as well

taken to opening mutltiple tabs, reading some other site, then going to get a pint of squash, come back and the tabs still not loaded....

Once you've installed the add on and restarted, in the bottom left hand corner "adblock" appears, load up a PH page, the click on "adblock", it'll bring up a list of the ad servers. pick one, remove everything after the main url / and replace with a *, hit ok. continue for any remaining.Blocked the ads the other day and the site seemed to improve, but its bad again now even with no ads.
Would I pay to use any site without ads, no I don't think so it doesn't work like that. Would i use a site that allowed ads and was painfully slow, I think like most, I'd move on tbh.
