X type diesel crank pulley

Has anyone removed a crank pulley as mine has got a fault with it causing a vibration through to the pas on low idel, it is bolted directly through to the cam chain gear, so I persume it would need locking in place , has anyone ever removed one and if so what was your procedures etc, also did you make a locking pin up or purchased on if so where did you get it from.
