MASERATI 3200 ALTERNATIVE ENGINES..?
Discussion
Well... I know, I haven't driven an Corvette Z06, nor a 3200GT.
But the idea of an LS7 from the Corvette Z06 doesn't sound to bad in my ears.
Bulletproof; light; NA; and 505 hp and 470 ft·lbf doesn't sound to bad...
Although I must admitt, at first glance it seems all wrong in the maserati. But give it a second thought!

Wrong, just plain wrong on so many levels
I respect your viewpoint - do you know of any bulletproof extended warranties that would cover any engine work? - Particularly re-mapped with Tubi to get a little more power and character?
I would much prefer to keep the cars original, however a couple of high revving character alloy 6 litre Chevy versions wouldnt hurt the bloodline too much..
If the engine in your 3200 is shot, then how on earth is the rest of it? The engine is supposed to be one of the more bulletproof parts. Taking it out I would think would devalue the car to nothing pretty much. PLus it won't sound right - the Maserati V8 is a gantastic soundding bit of kit. Ok the LS isn't exactly horrid to listen to, but it will sound utterly utterly wrong with the fud fud fud fud fud emanating form beneath the beautiful curves of the Maserati...
Just my 0.02$

And there is of cousre Monteverdi. The only swiss carmaker of interest (well, there was once a company, but...) And they even came from my hometown (I don't think any of you cares, but stil...)
Have a look at it:

Monteverdi 375
Designed by Frua (like the Volvo 1800S); and a small-block V8. Stunning!!!!

Don't get me wrong - I like the Anglo-Euro mashups. Monteverdi, Facel Vega and Bristol with their Chrysler engines; De Tomaso with Ford units, Bizzarrini, Gordon-Keeble & ISO with Chev lumps, etc. I think the Monteverdi Hai is one of the most glorious failures ever - it deserved at least a small (50 odd) production run IMHO.
Oh, and Frua did far better than the Volvo P1800, in my opinion. The Maserati Mistral and AC 428 were stunningly beautiful cars.
It's just that taking out a purebred Maser engine and plonking in a crated motor feels wrong, somehow.

Panterra made a lot of sense with the cross-plane V8, Interceptor (ok Brit) sounded lovely, Stag (Italian design - crossplane V8) + sorry the 3200 sounds utterly awful - like a turbo vacuum cleaner - stand behind one when he pulls away hard...
The LS could definitely be exhausted to sound far more exciting without sounding like Bullit + servicing? - Fit and change the oil yourself every couple of years - thats it
No, I havent got a broken one - I might be tempted to buy one with a shot engine if they are worth next to nothing in that state

I see your point. And besides, all those cars mentioned where designed around that engine. And I thought exactly the same when I read the first post, but then I started thinking...Oh, and Frua did far better than the Volvo P1800, in my opinion. I wouldn't take a mint 3200 of course. But one that the engine blew and isn't in perfect condition all over. Now that, IMHO, would be a perfect restauration project with the LS7 engine. Of course with reworked suspension, brakes, gearbox, etc.
And I don't have to tell you, that it would go better that any 3200/4200.

Why not a twin turbo Maser V8 from the Shamal, say?I wouldn't take a mint 3200 of course. But one that the engine blew and isn't in perfect condition all over. Now that, IMHO, would be a perfect restauration project with the LS7 engine. Of course with reworked suspension, brakes, gearbox, etc.

Edit: Thought the Shamal was more powerful than the 3200, but not... so never mind, silly idea.

Yes, it be one needing a little TLC and completely shot engine - any idea what the transmission types torque limits are - 500 ft lb?
Again, with the new Grantorismo, everyone is complaining about lack of acceleration - I would however be the first to admit the 3200 feels very fast in first 2 gears (turbo-rush a la Scooby..) - 4200, feels, ahem, not too brisk..
