Hi there,

I am looking to replace my battery on my TVR Chimaera 4.0 (1996). Can anyone please tell me what battery I should be getting and any recommended retailers?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Do a search on here for batteries, I got mine from Halfrauds - you need to get a size that fits the battery box and it should have at least 580 cold cranking amps (CCA).

also check advice on batteery box removal, main point is to draw a line on the footwell floor where the front of the battery box meets it. If you do that the jod is a lot less difficult than its made out to be.

You will find its an 072 type at halfords but beware, they sell several variants some with very low CCA values that wont be suitable for a chim.

If its a Halfords calcium one you have in there already and its less than 4(or maybe 5) years old then you'll get a new one for free...

I noticed that mine was, took it down there and they did a battery and alternator test and determined that the alt was fine but the battery buggered. So with my instruction, a guy removed the old one, took the box in to find the biggest battery he could fit in it (around 600A cold start I think) and put it all back in with no trouble at all. Started her up and it worked a treat - much more eager than i'd ever heard her start up before!

Total cost: £0

Most impressed and would definately recommend Halfords to anyone else thumbup

I have the Exide featured in this test. Rather pricey but cranks the 5.4 over far better than the Bosch Silver ever did. Halfords good VFM though. smile
