Just was forced off the road.

Was driving back home to pick up a CD I forgot for my mate.

P plater in a laser/323 hatch came around a blind corner, on my side of the road, at far above 60.

2 options. Brake and head on (me doing 40 odd before I hit the brakes) or run off the road.

So I hit a fence. Luckily we have had a ton of rain so the fence post just went over. Got bogged. Plastic trim came off the front bumper. Called police. Told me because I didn't have the cars rego avoid calling a tow truck to avoid neg driving and contact the fence owners and we wont worry.

Called the NRMA, have to charge me $99 to pull me out as it was non-mechanical.

Then a local NRMA bloke came along, just passing, pulled me out with a snatch strap. Not a problem. No charge. Took him 5 minutes. Checked out the car. Should be right mate. Passed the opinion "well, with the damage to this it is pretty dammed obvious you weren't speeding"

Fence owner came along, offered to help repair/pay/whatever. She was fine. Picked up about 10k worth of work from the business to do a subdivision for her somehow. I'll do the prelim stuff for free. Cops called back, spoke to her, are happy and won't do anything.

Drove car home. Bit of damage to bonnet (scratch as it was a post and rail fence), minor damage to both guards which shouldn't need replacement. I'll post pics in the morning when it is light.

I'm pretty shaken up at the moment. One of those situations where I could be in hospital right now.

That Muse CD was not worth it.

Try sticking an add in the local rag for witnesses. You never know, either the person in the other car will come forward or someone might have seen it happen.

I have met people coming the other way in the past...though most times I think its just general shit driving skills and lack of attention.

I even encounter it in the suburbs. Last week on the way home from work I am approaching the intersection to turn on to my street when a 4WD took the intersection on the wrong side of the road...I was close enough to feel the need to hold on to the seat from behind, stand on the brakes and jamb my thumb through the horn button, all I got was a wave form the other person.
I carried on to my street...within a block I encountered someone else on the wrong side of the road, I actually had to stop, blast the horn and flash the lights before they noticed!!
Also near my house there is a blind curve in the road that does not have markings in the middle..so of course there is always some numpty on the wrong side of the road.

I know what type of car it was - but it's a rural road - only one car passed the other car (he stopped to give me hand) and said he was forced off the road as well.

The fence was built right up to the road edge, so had nowhere to go. Either head on or through a rotten wooden fence.

On the sort of upside got a quote for repairs. Bearing in mind I needed the bonnet resprayed anyway due to some peeling clear coat which was going to set me back $450, a total of $914 really isn't too bad at all. Under my excess as well so won't bother going through insurance.

If its a bit of a twisty road the person might use it regularly for a fooly hektik hills run. Go and hang around and you might spot them.
