Took the cerb out today, it's been in my garage for over a month so that I could waxoyle it. Finished that yesterday, so today gave her a good wash and polish, then out for a spin, wellcensored me if the speedo didn't stop working after about 40 minutes, if I take the car up to what I estimate to be 70-80 the speedo flicks up and down. Is this BIG FUSE related or is it something someone else has experienced and knows how to fix?weeping

Speed sensor on the back axle might be worth a look?

I agree with it possibly being the sensor, it could have got waxoil on it, give it a clean with white spirits.

That is indeed big fuse related if my experiences are anything to go by. Happened to me twice, and on one occasion i chose to ignore it until it was too late and the entuire car just ground to a halt.

On mine it was a failed alternator that caused a dodgy speedo and also rev counter

When my big fuse went, it was the rev counter that packed in...not the speedo. However, you could change the fuse anyway to be sure.

Thanks for the advice guys, have checked the big fuse it looks OK. Have now lifted the car and checked the speed sensor I think, is this the speed sensor? I hope you can see the picture.

this is the only thing that I can see that could be the speed sensor, it looks like a collection of magnets on a wheel with an inductive pick up, anyway I have given it a pretty good clean with a paintbrush and white spirit. I will take the car out again on Tuesday after I have waxoiled some of the bits I missed. Hopefully it will be ok.

Thanks for that Kev, I think you just may have found the solution, I have cleaned the sensor, and checked the big fuse with no luck, I suspect that the sensor is duff and needs replacing.weeping

Had mine done at TVR Power a couple of month's back and rather than rely on gapping they run it up in gear with wheels jacked off ground to check and adjust as required. As with all things TVR, they are not all exactly the same.
