Hi
Ive just bought a 2005 monaro vxr, its a wicked motor but i feel the radio is a bit lacking.

Ive just found a good deal on a alpine dvd unit, is it just a case of plug it in and go, i know i need a fascia adaptor, but does the subs, amp and standard speakers run ok

Any info would be gratfully apprieciated

system and speakers are 2 ohm so need to be careful about power from new HU..... probably best to start again. if you read back a few pages, there was a thread where someone had changed rear speakers for subs and "parcel shelf" subs for full range speakers. Amp is nothing to shout about anyway so you're not going to miss it with a decent HU. Going to do a proper install myself one day, but can't stop opening the window to hear that wortec roar.....

The 6 CD changer is all inside the stereo unit. You keep feeding the discs in the single hole in the front....

Check out the FAQ's for details on changing the stereo if you do go that way.

I have fitted an Alpine DVD/Nav system into the Ro no problems, sound fine to me without changing speakers. I just have to make sure the cup holders are put back before the screen unfolds out of the dash banghead

Mines a Kenwood and as Hainser says, with regards to unfolding screens, cup holders are fair game! The type of screen depends on whether you're using a double din unit where the screen folds down and slides back straight into the open cup holder or single din types where the screen just slides up?

But with regards to speakers, mine are still stock and no problems at all and they sound reasonably good as well.

I'm doing the oposite to most. Running an amp (Vibe Slick A2's) for each set of speakers - 3 off mounted in the boot, then Vibe 6.5" speakers front and back (Black Airs), then rectangular 6"x9" (QB69's) Vibes on the rear shelf which are as good a free air sub as you can get IMHO. End up with 2400watts of music power. I like the stock look of the head unit so cant be bothered to change it. BTW the amps have high input so you can run the standard speaker cables direct into them then 4ohm out to the speakers.

Hi,

Which models of Kenwood and Alpines did you fit that didn't require a new facia and speakers?

Also did you get the steering wheel controls working?

If I change I'd rather get something that someone else has tried and tested wink

I'm tempted to go for this cheap and cheerfull Kenwood Double DIN DPX701U, do you think I'll run into any problem. http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/dpx701u.asp.

Thanks

Elliot
