The maintenance thing seems like a good idea, tracked cars should be regularly checked.
But $1000/£500 to check it's ok? I feel sorry for all the jap nutters out there who will wanna tune the crap out of the new GTR just like they did the old ones. They're gonna face a good few hurdles!

Seems alot to assume IMO.
There are bound to be lighter than stock wheels available, and as for fitment it just seems a little arbitrary to say that nothing aftermarket will fit.
Depends if they are manufactured as blanks then machined to fit various applications as and when, or manufactured specifically for a certain car. There are bound to be lighter than stock wheels available, and as for fitment it just seems a little arbitrary to say that nothing aftermarket will fit.
I still can't imagine Nissan are going to spend this much time & money on R&D then admit they could have made the wheels even lighter.

Completely disagree with the wheels comments. Frankly some forged wheels or magnesium wheels will be much lighter than the stock items. The stock wheels are made not just for track purpose in mind, but to also be hard wearing and rigid enough to handle potholes, speedhumps etc etc. FYI, R33 GTR wheels are some 2 a bit times heavier than same sized Volk TE-37 wheels, which would make quite a difference to unsprung weight and therefore performance on a track car.
Similarly, the fitting issue is not a problem as the wdith and offset of wheels is pretty much generic in most applications. Its not like Nissan will use some compeltely unique hubs and offset, they will use standardised fitments, doesn't matter what car it is, there is still a budget.
Back on topic though, most of the issues have already been overcome by tuners Mines and more will follow suit.
