Does anyone know how many Taimar Turbo's and SE variants were produced? I know what the books say but mine appears in all the books listed as a standard Taimar Turbo but I have the original invoice for the factory SE conversion. I am interested to know how many others were converted.

Also I would be interested to know how many survive today.

I rarely see another TVR on the road in the Midlands let alone an M series car!

Yours was converted to SE spec (flaired front & rear arches, Compomotive wheels, etc) by the factory when owned by a guy called Pete Hancock. In 1982 the factory were very quiet and took whatever work they could.

As far as I know, there were 3 original factory Taimar Turbo SEs, one 3000S Turbo SE and one Taimar SE.

All others were either retro-fitted by the factory or one of the many TVR specialists that do this sort of thing. I have a 3000M SE bodyshell and bonnet that TET in Blackpool made for me out of a damaged M body, one day I'll get round to making it into a car!

Edited to correct a couple of typos, I'm being pedantic today.

Wasn't the black Taimar Turbo SE converted by the factory before it was sold, rather than being built as a Turbo SE???

I've heard that story but I assumed that it was ordered as an SE by the original owner. I've seen two of the original Turbo SE's and both had air conditioning fitted, by all accounts it never worked well in our hot climate

My 'rumour' was that the black car was built as a Turbo, used by the factory for a motor show (somewhere), then converted to an SE before being delivered to the first customer.
