Got turned over by a Nissan 350Z today. Whilst only just, deff got out-accelerated by a grey 350Z, even up to major leptons. Just have to start saving for the old supercharger. Mind you from the size of the rear pipes and boxes fitted to the 350, looked like he had spent extra dosh as well!

Sickening isn't it? The SC is the only way to go, it makes a massive difference. A couple of weeks ago I pulled the pants down on an Audi R8 on mid range acceleration. Imagine how the poor bloke must have felt!

Quite happy with his car regardless? I would be.

I'd also recommend the supercharger though - in my view the N/A 5.7 never really FEELS that fast, even though it can be, and it's easily caught off guard.

It's easy to be caught off guard with FI too. The gears are so tall and I tend to drive everywhere on the torque around 2000rpm. It goes well but needs to be doing 3500rpm+ before it really flies. 6th gear is just a joke and given the choice I'd go for shorter ratios and fatter rubber.

As an ex 350z owner I can tell you that you were not driving your car properly - they are quick a-b cars for their weight but they are no match for power or acceleration. FI is not the way to go, learning your gears/car is.

Unless that is the 350z is one of the many TT converted cars out there.

I certainly was - correct gears, foot to the floor, flat out up to redline through the gears. T'was a straight dual carriageway, and whilst I was 3 up,lardy a%*e wife (NOO, I DIDN'T REALLY SAY THAT - she's size 10 really!) and 14 year old, so I suppose carrying an extra 18 stone, I couldn't catch it. It was pulling away ever so slightly. I assume that it had been tweaked as it had huge stainless steel silencers and pipes.

quite poss a tt then as there is no way in hell a standard 350z could ever match the ro (even in standard tune from the factory) on acceleration. They aer fast cars but way down on power and torque compared to even a standard RO and weigh about the same.

and the end of the day you never know what is exactly under the bonnet. Just look at the 427 TT install on here
I've no doubt that is going to have *crazy* figures but you'd never know it

I drove a 350Z back to back with the VXR when I was choosing/buying, and *one* of the reasons I rejected the Nissan was the very disappointing performance.....

Have to agree with stig on this one, must have been TT'd or SC fitted.
Had a Zed for 2 years and in mid range there is no comparison.

I wouldnt say disappointing, I loved mine and have regretted selling it - comfiest car I've owned/driven. The ro is nowhere near as capable on long distances as the 350z was and the handling/stopping of the Zed are above the weight at which the ro punches at.

There isnt a massive difference in real on road terms between cars which will accelerate to 100 in 13.2 and 14.2 secs respectively and both top out at circa 155.

The Monaro never feels as quick as it should for 400bhp, which is probably down to gearing, bulk and aerodynamics!!
