Implications of not getting a service done on time?

Just a quick one, car is due its Inspection II at 60k miles, according to the countdown mileage thing.

Its showing -400 miles now and im due to do a 2000 mile round trip next week. No problem getting it done after that is there?

I presume if i have a warranty issue between now and then it wouldnt be covered but apart from that, no issues?

There should not be a problem alex.

You can go over it by 2k. BMW wont really make an issue out of it.

A warranty issue would be valid if it happened within the 2k. (ie after it was due/before you serviced) Its not like it will be 20k overdue.

They would use BMW parts etc.

Im not that sure on that one. I think it would be upto dealer discretion. What is the car and is it likely to fail on you? If its a petrol engined model which im sure it is. I cant really see the car failing unless you abuse the arse off it lol. If your overly worried, pay the extra wedge and get your car serviced by bmw.

So long as they do exactly what is specified by an Inspection2 then your warranty will be fine.

The Car Care Faries, however, will be round to put a brick through your windscreen for missing a service by 2000 miles.

It's now illegal for car companies to refuse warranty claims because their product wasn't serviced at a main dealer. You must, however, have the correct service items done at a VAT-registered garage using genuine OEM parts. As far as missing a service is concerned... I wouldn't advise it. It may be harmless to the car but if they can use any excuse to wriggle out of a warranty claim they will do these days... and missing a service by 2k miles will be enough of an excuse to them.

If the car is still covered by its three year new car warranty, then it can be serviced at any VAT registered garage without the warranty being affected, as long as the garage follow the BMW servicing routine, and use only genuine BMW parts.

If the car is covered by an extended warranty, or an Approved Used Car warranty then it must be serviced by a BMW dealer to maintain the cover.

I think the reason for this, is that extended warranties and used car warranties are classed as insurance products, which allows the provider more leeway to impose conditions.

If i get a stamp in my book then according to what i have been told (i.e. the counter goes down slower if you do motorway miles etc) then the dealer i file the warranty claim with (if something should go wrong) will not know if i had it done according to the counter or not.

I plan on getting it done anyway asap, i just have a fair amount of driving to be done beforehand.

They'll almost certainly wriggle out of any subsequent warranty claims.
It will count down mile by mile once you're over as it determins xxxxx Miles as when it was due a service and now you're xxx miles over that.

Are you sure? I can't see how they'll go, oooohhh it's fine, it's only 10% over it's service schedule, by that logic you could miss each service by 2k and after 3 services you've accumulated 6k worth of service schedule extension.

If the car could do 2k more without damage, the intervals would be 2k further apart.

If you went 2000 miles over a scheduled service and had a problem, then I am sure that the warranty will be void. It was normal to allow a overshoot of 500 miles but in this current climate of using any reason to void warranty it would make sense to service before it is due.
