Track Day Rims and Boots Info..?
Discussion
Well after a day out at Bedford yesterday, and Sean E coming past me ..!its becoming clear that road tyres really are a compromise on the tarmac.. and brakes.. dont even go there..
AP's are looking like the way forward..!So i'm looking for a set of track day 5/7 spoke 18" rims and slicks, they dont need to be mint.. but straight, crack free round and black would be fine..

Maybe someone has a set they are moving on.. with the right offsets for an E46M3CS..?
If you're going to start using slicks, do the brake upgrade first. A lot of the time advantage of slicks is gained under braking, as there is so much more grip you can brake later and harder, if the brakes themselves are up to it.
Also slicks will let you run much more negative camber, however this comes at a price if you use the car on the road with road tyres - they won't last nearly as long.
How about trying a road-legal track tyre first, such as the Toyo R888? these have significanlty more grip than normal road tyres, and you don't have the hassle of carting an extra set of wheels around and changing them at the track.

Thanks Ian,
I think I am delaying the inevitable really as far as the brakes go, but £3.3K is a big hit..! I got talking to a guy with 4 corner AP set up on his yesterday which he said was just night and day compared to the OEM ones, we ran out of daylight, but he kindly offered to demonstrate the difference..
I see your running the RS... bloody lovely, i've considered going down the Porsche route again, but a 964 is £50 grand let alone a 993..!
If i can get mine to keep with your RS that will do to start with ..

There was a 200sx there yesterday running 17" ex BTCC slicks he picked up for £100. If you can get 17" rims over your brakes that might be an option.
I've just bought myself a similar set from the WTCC. I hope that they'll make a real difference and at the very least will be a new driving experience. I'll keep you posted on how they run.Gassing Station | Track Days | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
