Race Paint Jobs... !!!

Gulf colours sh1t? Don't be to hasty there hombre. Whilst going through the agonising choice of possibilities regarding the colour to choose for the GTW, I too pondered a Gulf racing paint job but not the GT40 French blue and orange that seems to have been in existence for ever ( hang on a minute, I do believe that colour scheme was first sported in the early sixties! I was born in '65 so I guess it really has been around for at least MY ever ) but the most modern variation we have yet seen of the old favourite as worn by the '96 GTC Gulf Maclaren F1's, now THAT is what I call a proper Gulf livery

I did of course go BLACK in the end and the main reason for not doing the Gulf thing was that I did not want the car to look like it was trying to be an F1 but in reality, I do not think that many would have made the connection and so it will remain as yet another one of life's 'missed opportunities', but hey!, hang on a mo, you could do it couldn't you?

there was an old sport that was "harrods" colours ie yellow and green strips - one large in the centre with two thin ones next to it. - which looked good. Only one I have seen.

If it's a Race paint job you want then 'Yellow' is the winning colour for an Ultima - Streaks ahead of the Black cars.

Although I do think Cobra stripes or similar would spice it up a little.

I'm also told that a solid colour is more mature - my thoughts are that the Ultima looks like it was designed by a 7 year old boy (a good thing methinks ), so who gives a rat's ass about how mature it is. Finally, I'm told that a Gulf job would make the Ultima too much like a "look at me" type car... err... I don't think it needs a paint job to achieve that!!!

Re-sale will be an issue one day I suppose, so would welcome any opinions from those 'in the know'!

This is how to do it,this is actually a red car.It is fully wrapped.When you get bored you or the new owner just de wrapps it.

Old hat aye... probably why the new Aston is covered in it and looks HOT IMO anyway . It's probably one of those love it or hate it schemes. I deliberated over it for my Saker and the following pics made my decision easier. At the end of the day tho I'm doing what I want/like not what others like. It can always be painted if you don't like it and if I grow tired of mine I'm painting it BLACK!

In my experience yes I have seen people led by other peoples opinions. Sad but true. I had quite a few people comment against the Gulf Blue however most didn't even know the racing heritage behind it.

If I were doing another car that's what I'd do. Raccoon really know their stuff and some of the wraps look amazing!

Compete creative carte blanche that way - and completely reversable!

So what is that Raccoon stuff? Some sort of sticky back plastic? Does this mean I never have to pain my car and can change the colour/scheme easily and quickly? Sounds interesting....

I saw the mentioned westi in gulf colours and i thought it was nice as did many others as it won many best of show awards!!!

I thing an Ultima in Gulf livery would be awesome if done well.

I was never out of it old son, never out of it. I guess it is like many on here, you say your piece when you feel it is your time and then you settle a bit, lurk a little and chip in when you think you have something relevant to say.
The GTW will be back on the road in readiness for the vet's trip to the Ring in July and I would just like to take this opportunity to implore you not to cover your car with a nasty colour vinyl, please, see the light.
