Got my Griff in the Classifieds at the moment so I thought I'd go back through my paperwork to see what she had cost me over the three years .Figures are approximate.....
Deprieciation.....................£9000
Servicing/repairs/upgrades........£9287
Tax...............................£500
Insurance.........................£2000
Fuel..............................£6500
Total.............................£27287
29000 miles.......................94pence per mile.

I'm not sure whether this is a good reason to sell or a good reason to keep her.I was certainly a bit surprised at the figure myself. This means that every time I fill her up and use a full tank of full over the weekend it theoretically costs me about £200.If I cant achieve the price I want for her she will be staying....but used a lot less.I dont know whether this makes more sense than selling her or not.
So, £27k, is this good/bad or average?

I should think that if we all sat down and did the maths it would come to a frightening figure, but for most these are second cars, purely for enjoyment purposes, so at what price does the grin factor cost? priceless in my book.hehe

But Matt, I've only met you what, three or four times? and every time you've got the biggest grin on your face. biggrin You love that car. When I pulled up in that Tam the other Sunday you couldn't give a toss because you have one of the best looking black Griffs there is. It sounds pretty good too. You've finally got your problems sorted - enjoy for at least one more summer. cool

Look at my profile - six grand on mine in the first year and it's a tired bag of nails!

For Gods sake man, think before you post.

My wife doesn't usually read this, but she talks to other wives who do.

I've had a pricey year with a few improvements made. I had to order her a new Mini Cooper for delivery next month just to get away with what I've already spent. if you add the cost of her present that allowed the rest of the work, then I've done nearly that in a year.

If you say thing like this she will be after a bigger present.

Mods, kindly delete this thread please before the wives catch us. Then sin bin the OP. Make go out and enjoy driveing his, instead of doing all of us up like a kipper. wink

By the way OP can you post a better picture of those wheels than the one in your profile.

You are calculating totally wrong.

Deprieciation.....................£9000 - You cannot know this till you actually sell the car so up to now Depriciation is ZERO.
Servicing/repairs/upgrades........£9287 - Upgrades DON'T COUNT.
Tax...............................£500 - Impossible, it is taxed as a PLG vehicle
Insurance.........................£2000 - Get a cheaper insurance I only pay £287 a year.
Fuel..............................£6500 - Any car uses fuel so what is different.

See, problem solved.

Nonsense, every car has a market value. Put a realistic value on your assets. However it could have been predicted; he could have bought a 1997 model and lost almost nothing.

Servicing/repairs/upgrades........£9287 - Upgrades DON'T COUNT.

Agreed. I pay about £300 a year on servicing and don't need repairs.

Tax...............................£500 - Impossible, it is taxed as a PLG vehicle

Umm, three years road tax IS about £500...

Insurance.........................£2000 - Get a cheaper insurance I only pay £287 a year.

He may be younger that you

I measure mine in smiles per mile.

I like shoes and TVRs and the miles are far nicer in a Tiv!

Well done Scorcher for removing the Ad - you know it makes sense.
Just totted up my 2.5 yrs expense in the Griff :-)

Depreciation - minus £1500
Servicing etc - £2500
Tax (pro rata) - £420
Insurance - £1100
Fuel (10k) - £2300

Total = £4850

As this was my (necessary) 2nd car tha cost compares favourably to say a 'normal' cars depreciation alone!
Whilst I admit I have been very lucky I think your Griff (which is the best sounding Griff I have heard in my 10 years of listening to 'em!!) will be closer to my figures over your next 3 years of ownership......

Look forward to comparing db's/pops and bangs soon!

Scorcher's £9,000 in three years seems to be very high since most Griffs are about £1,000 p.a.. Has he bought from a dealer and added in their nominal £6,000 mark up.

If I didn't have the Griff, I'd just spend a fortune on booze, and loose woman.

The rest I'd probably wastehehe

Seriously though, you're only here once, so make the most of it I sayyes

Who wants to go through life, and at the end say, I was so frugal, I drove a pious and it only cost me 5p a mile, and now I've got loads of money to leave behind

I was misserable my whole life, but I was well offhehe

Don't see the point meself.

You come into the world with nothing. If you can go out in debt you've made a profithehehehe

The 'booze and women' quote, I like that, wasn't it George Best who said it? Good one anyway.
PS; like your post on Life don't get better, unless you had 'mrs Stoner' in passenger seat, eh?
