Gents,

My daily drive is an immaculate E30 318i Tourer. I am considering having an appropriate Superchip fitted, primarily to enhance fuel consumption & torque if possible. I am aware that it will increase BHP by 8 horses, however, I'm not really bothered about BHP, I am more concerned with economy & torque. The SC website does not provide any details other than the BHP increase in respect of my car. If any of you gents have direct experience with a Superchip fitted to an E30 M40 318i engine, I would be very grateful for any comments/feedback in respect of what difference it makes to the engine & it's performance. Does it improve fuel economy & torque in any noticable way?

Cheers guys!

Hiya, have you tried Ant or the Evolve guys on the E30 zone?
I would imagine a far better option as they focus on BM's.
K&N panel filters are ok, but not the cones as they just suck in warm air, unless you isolate the intake.

IMHO, anthing with K&N infront of the name should be avoided at all cost.

Even panel filters housed in original airbox?

Yes, avoid any oiled filters, I've lost count of the number of cars that come in with fecked or dirty airflow meters that have fitted them. Not just BMW's. The oil is dragged through the filter over time, and coats the hot wire, result is usually lean running on BMW's.

Of coarse anything running MAP or TPS based systems is fine.

All IMHO of coarse smile

Heard and read a lot about various filter changes - they can improve airflow, but at the expense of not filtering the air anywhere near as good. Which could be pretty disastrous for the engine.

Bear in mind that even the most optimistic remap or chip change on an engine like that in the 318i will maybe get you what, 10hp, invariably a lot less. hardly worth the expense.
