NEW TYRES FOR S3

Bridgestones seem to be the preferred option on S series - I had them on my S3 and have them on my V8S and I find them great.
The debate continues over S02s and S03s - S02s seem good but some people have not rated the S03. The S02 and S03 have a slightly lower profile than the original tyres which some will say changes the look and reduces ground clearance, however this is minimal.
I've just fitted a new set of the original profile Bridgestone RE71s to the V8S, best price by far was Micheldever tyres. They will mail to you if you don't want the journey. As for more local places, just phone around and compare with the quote you get from Micheldever.

Unlike JSG I hated the RE71's after my first outing in the wet with them and wholely regretted the purchase of four. Since I have changed to the newer RE720's which do come in the correct profile for the car and have been absolutely chuffed with their performance since I got them.
I have just driven to my parents in Norfolk on compacted snow and ice and they were superb. They are very progressive in the dry and in the wet I have found limits to the performance of the car that I couldn't get anywhere near with RE71's. They are a totally superior tyre (IMHO) and are much more modern in their design having only been introduced onto the market in 1999, rather than the now rather long in tooth RE71 which were fitted to the first S's back in the 80's !
If you are only going to drive the car in the dry or never push it along, then I would say the RE71's were OK, but having seen what performance difference there is between the same amke but different model of tyre I would not buy them again.
If you are prepared to lower the profile then undoubtedly the tyre to use is the S02, opinions on the S03 are divided. I know 2 guys with Cerberras shod with them who really like them, but there have been a number of tests where they haven't performed. In fact TVR have dropped them on the Tamora for Avons I believe, after PW was unimpressed with their performance.
I got my tyres from Micheldever, fitted etc etc for similar money to JSG. I can't remember exactly and I haven't got the invoice here.

Interesting point - I've not tried S02s or the later REs myself and they are not easy to track down currently. As I said I've found the RE71s ok but both my S' have had LSD and I am slowing down in my old age - although the V8 does go sideways a lot easier than the S3 (with the old tyres)

Just a quick point... RE720s are not Z rated and are not suitable for the V8S. Just to make sure that we don't have V8S owners getting the wrong tyre!
