Just wanted to say that Janice has had new outriggers. Inspired by Ray, Trickjohn and others had intended to do a full body lift and, with a welder's help, sort out some relatively reasonable corrosion in my S3c chassis.
Unfortunately tendonitis prevented the plan, which involved propping the garage trusses, ratchet straps and scaffold poles, from implementation - so decided to try David Gerald TVR. Work completed on Friday and involved partial lift (yes I know!!) with replacement of full length of each outrigger and some local patching. Luckily extent of corrosion was not too bad, very happy with the work considering, looks lovely underneath and ties in with the refurbishment that I have done myself of the rear cradle, rear trailing arms and middle chassis.
Only MOT and painting the very front end of the chassis, after bonnet and radiator removal now left to do, really happy.

If you don't mind.. how much does David Gerald charge for the partial body lift and chassis repair. Do they cut out, fabricate some new tube and weld it in place of the corroded tube. Are the welds good quality.. do they get right over the top. If there are un-welded bits wont the tube fill with water and start rotting again.
I've had a quote from steve gugleimi at £640 to do both sides at the rear.. does DG compete on price.

Cheers mate...sorry to sound like the spanish inquisition...Paul. smile

Paul its fine to ask. The partial lift was pretty high so there is enough access to weld on the top. The welds are good quality as far as I can see, the tube mitres appear good and the joints to the transverse tubes. The whole of the outrigger length and seatbelt mountings on both sides was replaced, at my request. There was very little corrosion in the transverse tubes, but a patch was needed at one location where a transverse tube joined the main chassis rail - I knew about this beforehand.
On price the cost was significantly more than your quote, but competitive with others from TVR specialists. I do not think it is fair to quote exact figures, but if I sell my car then the reciept will of course be there as part of the history. I did obtain 3 quotes.
I will soon have some photographs as well, which I may post

Hi Baggie

Sorry if this sounds strange, but I think its important to try to get as much information out as possible on restoring/repairing these cars. Obviously every car and project will be different and costs will therefore vary. The reason I use this site is to get information/inspiration to get my car finished.

I'm sure DG wouldn't be bothered about you revealing the price.

Cheers

Mikee. I see where you are coming from, but I am a bit old fashioned when it comes to information. Having said that I thought that my reply was reasonable?

Thinking further about this. Paul's quote was for 2 rear corners, so as my work involved effectively 4 corners then the price is in the same ballpark.

Maz, I saw what I thought may be your car in the showroom, has it had work done or have you sold it to them

There were some nice looking cars in DGs including Tuscan, T350, and Tamora, but the one that caught our eye was the blue Vixen with the 2.5 Triumph Six, really pretty and characterful - like the S!!!!

Hmmm, some very nice cars in that showroom indeedy, and agree the Vixen was nice. What was/is the yellow beasty in the corner that is in a rather shameful state of disrepair.

Thanks for responding to my enquiry.. thats enough Info for me.. I wuz casting about for an alternative repairer nearer my location. DG would have to match Gugleimi's price to get the work... for various reasons I'd prefer not to use DG unless I really had to. scratchchin The quality of the job is of course another factor.. thanks again.. Paul.

Hi Baggiebird

I wasn't being cheeky, it's just nice to know what prices are for specialist jobs. I know what an alternator costs, but I have no idea what specialist jobs cost, hence the comment.

Cheers

Before I bought the car I have now I had the opportunity to get one with outriggers needing attention, as I'm not very good at housekeeping my email here it is, it was an enquiry to David Gerald.

Hello Chris we can do this and be assured its IMPOSSIBLE to do properly without lifting the body ; we charge £1200 + vat and can collect from Essex by transporter ; we charge £1.55 + vat per loaded mile ie if its 150 miles its to your location we would charge 232.50 + vat to collect Regards Doug

Subject: TVR Repair enquiry

Hi, I am considering purchasing a TVR S2 which needs the outriggers replacing.

Can you give me an idea of the worst case cost of this repair ?

I appreciate this is difficult without seeing the car.

Some people have told me that this can be done without taking the body off – but doesn’t this depend on the nature of the damage?

Any help / advice you can offer appreciated.

The car is currently in Essex (Braintree) and if I was to proceed I would need to get it transported to yourselves – and advice / service you can offer for this ?

Best Regards
Chris Bark

Well done, another s series good for the future, it makes me feel better, my chassis & engine renovation is going to cost about 2k, but thats everything welding, painting, SS nuts & bolts, poly slip bushes, braided brake lines, diff carrier, upgraded camshafts (cossie engine), lsd diff blah, blah the list goes on and thats without things I dont know about or have forgotten about, If i was not so tight I would have loved to get the car done by someone else and it would be back on the road now - I am still looking at April, if all goes to plan.

Best Regards.

Hmm.. yes thats about where I pitched DG's price.. I wonder if that includes a good waxoil on completion and by a good waxoil I mean drill a small hole in the tube and squirt in a load of waxoil...plugging up the hole afterwards.

I'd better ring them and ask I suppose.. thanks chaps for your words.

Paul.
