Hi,

Just thought I would give an update - after posting a few messages on here asking for advice.

I was up in court today for doing 93 in a 60 zone on the A36 in Wiltshire - ended up with 14 days ban and 355 fine, nil points.

Sorry about that but dosen't sound to bad (unless you need the car for work) at least you have no points on the licence after the ban, insurance will go up but all round not too bad

What do you think?

I got £450 and 5 points for 87 in a 60 2 years ago so you've done OK.

I got 6 points & £350 fine 5 and a bit years ago - not sure whcih I would have preferred the ban or ponts. Bans do make it tricky re insurnace and car hire etc but 6 points for 5 years was also quite worrying...

Result?!! The guy was BANNED for 14 days, just for doing 90-odd in a 60 - most likely a nice open road, nothing dangerous - id say its a travesty! Thing is, we're so used to being persecuted that now its seen as good when youre 'not persecuted quite as much'

PS no offense intended to whoever i quoted!

don't worry none taken
I just view it that 30+ over thte limit = ban, and seeing how arsey the beak has been recently, 14 days isn't as bad as all that. I'd be annoyed to get a ban, but would consider 14 days a lot more acceptable than 6 months !!! but you are quite right - we have all become used to huge bans imposed for speeding, that 14 days seems quite ok.

Madness.

Long straight bit of A road with no turnings. Nothing wrong with 90.

If you're doing round blind bends in the wet a foot off the car in front then you should be shot.....

Basically my defence was that I had no defence.

Just said that I had no excuse for driving at that speed, though I was confident that I was only breaking the limit for a short time. Also, mentioned it was a dry and sunny day with very little traffic on the road. Did mention that it would be hardship regarding getting to work etc, as I think they were looking at giving me a 28 day ban to start with, but that seemed to sway them to reduce it to 14 days.

They also wanted me to pay the fine there and then, but I told them my cash was tied up in a fixed notice savings account - so they ended up giving me 56 days to pay up. All in all did not think it was too bad, though wait to see what my insurance company says!

14 days - not too bad considering what could have been - but really is it so criminal?, after all thieves may soon be able just to say 'sorry'

I got 6 pts + £300 for 101 in a 60, often wonder if a short ban would have been better, 14 days I could manage but now I've got lots of points - only takes one more 'nick' for a longer ban.

And now I ponder, if in the same situation as last time, ie 100+ in a 60 and 'waved down' by plod, should I stop or try & outrun him? not something I've ever considered before but now.....

Thats pretty easy going I think. I got a 1 month ban for doing 49 in a 30 limit. Oh, and there were no indications it was a 30!!

Feckers.

If I were you I would be happy.

cazzo, if you're on a bike = do a runner. If in a car, and traffic light = do a runner. If traffic heavy = pull over & grovel, unless on bike, stick finger up and peggit.

Sorry for being so outrageous, I'll do better next post, but the sad truth of the matter is that if you run, you stand a good chance that the inept rozzer in the car behind you will smash it up instead of catching you.

I beleive that if you do something indefensible, you should take the rap = 150 in a RESIDENTIAL area. However if you are doing 80 in a newly reduced duel carraige way....... just thrash it & leave 'em. Why waste tax payers money on a court case?

Take your choice.
