Advert links in the forums?

Having had one post edited and one post removed due to this I wonder if I may get some clarification?

This post was edited to remove my link to my own ad: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Yet someone else linking to the same ad was left alone.

I had posted a similar thread over in the JAGUAR forum which was totally removed.

Now this reply is reasonable and I understand the no-ads rule and I suppose my main reason for posting the threads was to draw attention to them albeit for discussion and fat-chewing as opposed to out and out soliciting.

However, there are plenty of threads out there that link to ads. Some in which people link to their own ads. Lots where current ad's are linked to also.

Can I have a clarification on this;

Can posters link to adverts at all?
Can posters only link to the adverts of other people?
Can I DISCUSS the sale of my own cars in threads on PH?

OK I'll try to clarify,

So no ads or links to ads in the forums.

Feel free to discuss "I'm selling my car etc" just don't link the ad to it.

In the main if a PH'er does this only the link is removed. If it's in the league of I'm selling my car it's a 2005 whatever in blue etc etc. that post will probably be deleted.

Links to ads are only usually left on a thread if hey are in response to a “I'm looking for a Whatever car” or part etc. This would be a direct response to a question.

As there are thousands of posts made everyday I can say without hesitation that not all of them will be read. So if you see and ad or a link to an ad on a thread and you think the rules of posting are being broken then please press the report button and we will investigate.

I've always looked upon it as a don't take the mick type rule. So, starting a topic with 3 lines, one of which being a link to your own ad is taking the mick, where as if somebody were to discuss what car to buy, and maybe wanting a specific car, to say "mine is for sale, here is the ad" is all part of what PH is about and would be allowed (in my experience).

Trust that makes sense!

And as Al says, 10 million page impressions per month on PH; god knows how many posts are made. 20 moderators are never going to read each one, which is why the "report" button is so very useful. Every report is looked at without fail.

Fair comments.

I think I felt a bit hard done to because I was only really trying to start gossip. That said...I HAVE seen ads linked to "my car" by various people in specific threads. But not usually a thread started just to do so.

With hindsight I should be playing the ad down...having already had 14 offers of £500 ""FOR a QUICK SALE"" from some joker named "RAJ"
