Please help with the electric mirror issue on my xk8!!

Had to install a new battery on my kx8 recently, which led to some interesting electronic side effects. Radio wouldn't work, went to dealer, proved ownership, got code. Door windows would wind down every time the door handle is pulled, but not go up again when door closes. Some internet research and I found the (very simple) way to reset this.
The electric mirrors appear to have gone mental, and much internetting has failed to get to the bottom of the problem. With the switch in the middle position, push the lever back and they move... pretty much to whatever position they feel happy with, I appear to have to control whatsoever and usually have to resort to moving them by hand. All the other electrics were so easy to reset that I can't believe this has a complicated solution - buggered if I can find it though.
Any help would be greatly appreciated by me, and my neighbours who will at last have some relief from the early morning expletive torrent.
