What's the general feeling on these? My mrs is looking to change to a Golf 170TDI but after driving the Tiguan 140bhp tdi I felt the Golf was far far inferior in terms of comfort, space, refinement and fun, I was actually quite disappointed with it and now seriously considering a Tiguan

They've only been available since the start of the month, so I suspect most opinions will be based on demo test-drives...

IIRC - Tiguan is based on a stretched Golf platform (same as Eos and Touran) so has a bit more internal space. Extra height (and optional panoramic glass roof) make it feel lighter and airier inside too. Internal styling is a bit fresher.
I've always thought that the TDi 140 is actually a nicer drive than the 170 (based on experiences in Golfs) - the 170 can feel a bit trigger-happy and borderline over-powered/clumsy.

An equivalent Tiguan will be pricier than a Golf, but will probably hold its value well as there will be far less on the road. There's also the exclusivity factor at the moment.

My Mrs is planning to swap to one when her Touran goes back shortly, as she likes the space, practicality and "rough and tumble" styling of baby 4x4s

Went to the launch in Spain last year - nice car and drove pretty well, especially diesel 140 variant.

Wasn't too keen on the off road version that was there. Has a less steep frontage to it for hill climbs etc. Just looked a bit odd.

More options/engines coming later in the year, inc DSG 170 diesel IIRC.

yes that was my thoughts, I grew up with golfs but the 170 dsg I drove was noisy and unrefined, very suprises and was disappointed, really wanted to like it, the 140 Tiguan was far better in all areas

No, i know they are the same chassis and interior pretty much but the golf + looks like a pseudo people carrier and I hate the very thought of it being remotely similar to one of those dreadful creations! 6% is available on a Tiguan so it'll be this or an X3 I think
