I have been told that you can buy one of these for about £65, you then go to certain websites and download all the ROMs you want for free, upload them to the device, insert it into the DS and play the games.

Now apart from the legalities/ethics side of this - has anyone done this - it all saounds a bit to good to be true?

On the ethics side it is not something I could do myself, I am interested in if it does work - and if it does, how come Nintendo allow it?

I suppose this is like me putting a custom ROM on my PSP. This allows you to play emulators like SNES, Amiga etc. These are not official ROMs and will invalidate your guarantee but there is not a lot that the manufacturer can do about it.

You could get a "supercard ds one" card for about 30 quid, which takes a micro SD card for memory, and you can then download all the backup Roms that you want for the DS. Then its as easy as putting the Roms onto the micro SD card and selecting which ones you want to play.

My cousin's kid had a rom filled card that his dad gave him for xmas one year on his Nintendo Game Boy Advance, they've been around for ages, the DS ones are just the latest version.

I may have to do some investingating about them mind, you know, for research purposes like...

As for DS flash cards, there are loads out there, R4, M3, etc... Yes they work fine.

Any thoughts on why Nintendo does not close down the sites with the ROMs on - do they have a legal reason they are still there - it certainly appears to be pretty dodgy to make available for free all of the games?

They are hosted in places like Russia were it's hard to close them down (jurisdiction issues). They are without question, illegal to download.
