M5 vs VXR thread
Discussion
Cant see the point of a comparison between a standard machine and a heavily modified machine, if its you buying it then yes as its a personnel choice and you will be using it but this wont be a road test for people looking to purchase either, its just a comparison between the two cars... IL read it by all means but it will be meaningless really (both are slower than mine anyhow!
)
Wonder if they will mention the M5's attrocious MPG figures!!
If we really must compare... lets ask Harry and his 427TT to play with something interesting.. at least the performance will be mind boggling then.

The M5 is no doubt a stunning machine and for the gadget nerd (like me :-)) it's a dream.
It's a great drive and is wonderful engineering - I still don't like the SMG gearbox but it's great fun when pushing it.
But... 65k. For once it's a German car that doesn't need options (I only wanted the bluetooth kit and it's 500quid). Also the real world MPG is nearer 12-15 than 19 and don't get me started on the insurance (4 times the VXR8)
So is it worth 30k more than the VXR8... tough call. For me peronsally.. no. But hey, life would be dull if we all picked the same thing

But is it slower than a 600bhp Monaro or VXR8? I bet up to 120mph it isn't. The one thing I've learned about my SC CV8 is the power difference becomes most apparent as speeds become ridiculous and I bet the relatively low torque figure actually helps the BMW get off the line quicker.
I still love my Monaro but a car that spins all its power away up the road and cannot go around corners is not fast IMHO.

Agree
Remember it is not a Monaro, the VXR8 has much more rubber on the ground and much better traction. 0-60 in 4.4 and 0-100 in 9 secs aint bad, especially on far from ideal conditions.

What were the far from ideal conditions....was there a report on this?....0-100 time looks a little hot.
For those of you that don't read the PH homepage the VXR8 roadtest has been done.
