VW DVD Satnav (not touch screen) probs

I'm in the process of trying to sort out a problem with the navigation system on my VW.
I've noticed two bizarre things.
Firstly if you have the six CD changer fitted you cannot turn the CD player off and have navigation. Basically there is not a stop control. If you switch the unit off the CD goes off, if you turn the volume down, you can't hear the navigation unit. The only thing I've found so far that works is pressing the AUX button on the CD setting, because I have nothing on AUX. So basically if you want to navigate you have to have either the radio or the CD playing.
Secondly,
When entering a destination you can't select anywhere which is 'North' space 'somewhere', or East, West, South.... so you can enter eastbourne but not East Harlsey. The space select option just doesn't appear. I've been advised by VW that it is a fault with the disk and will be covered by the warranty, my disk is version 4.
