Getting tempted again...
Discussion
Seriously contemplating getting rid of the Legacy for this:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Suba...
STi v2 RA V-ltd (#444/555), all the good factory bits DCCD, quickrack, closed-deck block etc, standard other than a few cosmetics like wheels which could be easily changed, only 48km(30k miles) on the clock, Whats not to like?
Wanted one ever since I were a wee lad, maybe its time...

Out of interest, a question for those who know more about tuning them than me (like John F if he's around here at the moment)...
Apparently the Ver2 RA has a 5th injector (into the inlet manifold) - does this actually make any real-world difference, or is it just a homologation gimmick?
I guess it might help lower intake temps slightly and get more fuel in if the normal injectors are on the small side, but can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

Ben....just to digress for a sec....
I spotted this chaps avatar/userpic on clubsub.co.nz and thought of you

Ok....
P.S. Have a look at this thread from type-ra.co.uk.... http://www.type-ra.co.uk/vB/showthread.php?t=4050 . It seems to give some possible answers but you're probably right in wanting to ask John F as he'll probably know for sure.

I haven't been on clubsub in a year or 2, had kinda forgotten it existed tbh. Nothing wrong with that pic though
helps make a boring day at work a bit more interesting. What were you looking at on there, thinking of coming out this way to visit some fun roads?

If i want some fun roads there are a few over here in Scotland and Wales, probably very similar to some of the roads you have there, and if i want it to be a bit warmer i'll go to Spain as we have the highest driveable road in Europe, up in the mountains on the south coast as well as some of the best more remote driving roads around.
Thanks for the offer though
P.S. Fiji was bad enough!! No bloody roads at all, just lots of water!!

Hi Ben, just back from 3 weeks abroad racing, which was nice.
The 5th injector was there for homologation, it isnt used on the road cars. The intercooler is how they built the early cars so is stock, it's quite power limiting if you intend to up the power, but OK for normal power levels.
It's a good idea to take a printout of the chassis codes with you so you can have a look at the model specific details and gearbox spec, you'll find that on the SIDC FAQ at http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/SidcFaq/Jap... and http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/trans.html
cheers

Had a look over the weekend and wasn't as impressed as I was expecting. Car (#444) is very tidy cosmetically and the low Km's seem believable, but didn't feel as good to drive as the last one (#434) I drove, though that was 2 years ago so maybe my expectations have changed, or its also possible that the other wasn't as standard as I thought. A few issues that are putting me off though...
- Its been crashed previously and been on a chassis rig to straighten out the front-left corner. Still tracks straight and sits on the road fine, but steering wheel is slightly off-centre.
- Gearbox didn't have the really tight, rifle-bolt feel I remember very clearly from #434 - ratios still seemed close but shift action was longer and notchier.
- Power delivery felt a bit laggier, still pulled hard through the mid-range but didn't have the same top-end rush I remembered either - When driving #434 it felt like I could only just change gears quickly enough to keep up with it, #444 just didn't have the same rabid pickup. Could be faulty memory though?
- Is running on 15" rally-style wheels with snow tyres which seem to be smaller and lower the gearing - hit the (180km/h)limiter at an indicated 175 km/h, compared to an indicated 187ish in the Legacy. Also has big STi rally-style mud flaps, makes me wonder if its may have been used as a club car or something.

Didn't check PH until after I'd seen it but I did check the chassis code, GC8C4DD which is correct for a v2 STi-RA. Also has option code 66c (iirc) which I imagine is the V-ltd bit. No quickrack sticker in the rear window so it probably doesn't have that, from memory it was an option on them.
