Seriously.

I've taken off the sports back box and fitted a standard one.

I've still got the de-cat pipes in though.

I just got sick of having to shout at anyone who sat in with me at anything close to motorway speeds.

I fitted it on Saturday evening last so I've had time to make a comparison and it's way more user-friendly on the inside now.

I have to admit I do miss the shocked looks on other drivers faces when they hear the ROAR when I'm overtaking them but, for now at least, it'll be staying just that little bit quieter.

Hi Ireland

I did the same a while back but purely to improve the look of the Cerbs rear end. It was out with the Blue Flames and back with the standard backbox setup which I had refurbed to original condition. I do miss the bark of the Blue Flames though. What's your opinion on looks?

How much difference does CAT removal make to the sound using a standard exhaust setup?

Simon

Great sound - quiet(ish) but a lovely BARK when you floor it, and lots of pops n bangs - sounds like a Cerb should sound..

I don't think there's much of a difference between the standard one and the sport one on mine as bith had virtually identical size pipes.

The polished tail-pipes on the standard one are a lot shinier than the sport ones alright.

As for sound, it still roars when you floor it but it's a much deeper sound and it's a lot more civilised around town and it's easier to spend time in it at motorway speeds.

And, going slightly off topic, while I was doing the job I just had to start the car up without any exhaust just to see how loud it really is.

Now my dog is scared of my car.

boxedin My is now hardning off with the miles and getting a bit more fruity ears. Its actaully OK whilst cruising, but has the meanest bark under throttle. I had it measured at Goodwood this weekend, looks like I won;t be doing any track days there, it came in at 119db's hehe.
The misses hates it when it starts up though as it upsets some of the neighbours, which is probably the main reason (yes dear) I'll get a bigger baffle in the centre section in the near future frown.

I've got a set of those - necessary for getting below the 100db most tracks require now.

However - I'm never quite sure what putting that amount of weight at the end of the exhaust does. It's a little worrying about stressing the hangers/mounts.

I always re-fit the cats when it's time for the MOT. Everytime, I consider the advantages of leaving them on. Life is easier. It's as TVR intended the car to be. It may even cause less damage to the environment. There's even something, educated and wisely about a powerfull, sophisticated and quiet car.

it, doesn't take long before the sports pipes go back on!

PS. My Dog always retreats to his basket when I pick the keys up!

Maybe I should have left mine alone.

I went out for a 100 mile hoon today and 50 miles from home one of the bolts in front of the de-cat pipes came out.

I had to nurse the car home with one side of the exhaust spewing CO in to the car and it sounding louder than ever.

All fixed again (and relatively quiet) now.
