Had a Purple Fizz. I bought it for £90 at Eddy's in Leeds (Where the Harley dealer is), Did it up, new mudguards, lights etc and sold it for £140 18 months later. Certainly made me aware of braking distances, blind spots and anticipation of other road users. Mainly becuase it didn't brake very well!!!! Best fun I had tho. Wish I could remember the reg number.

The bike I really wanted was a Malaguti Monte. The local dealer (Now Woosters), in front of the Tetley Brewery had a pre-reg one and the Cavalcone for ages after the Ban came in. Just missed out on it hence the switch to the FS1E.

Yup, they were brilliant. Couldn't stretch to an FS1E so had a PUCH 3-speed. [used to wheelie quite well if you sat on back seat] My mates had CASAL 50's and they used to blitz anything else, those were the days.

A Cimatti Kaiman and a Fantic Chopper.
Nice bikes.

A pic of my FS1E that I bought last year.

I hope to start a full restoration on it at the end of the year.

That looks like a Yam 50cc motorcycle, rather than a supermoped.

Be careful how much you spend, as they aren't worth anywhere near what the 'peds are.

That's an FS1M. Bought in in the late eighties and early 90's. It's restricted and not worth as much as pre August 1977 models. In fact any Moped after the SUFFIX R registration will be restricted and not worth as much. E.G. RD50, DT50, FS1M, GT50 etc.

It's a 1978 model, with all the wrong gear on it.

I got quite a bit of spares, 3 engines being part of the deal. I haven't looked at anything spares wise, but the local dealer has a genuine chain and sprocket kit for me.

I'm aiming to do as much as I can by myself, and have no time limit on it being finished, it's going to be a keeper.

Wot, no 4stroke fans in here (yet) ?
The only moped a little PHer could be proudly seen on must have been the Honda SS 50 ?
OK, it was slower than most rang-dang-dang-waaaeeeeees,
but I was hooked on THAT sound, like a "proper" bike.
So I got rid of my Garelli 50 "Cross",
and got myself a ST 50 DAX @ 16, as the SS was very costly to insure in germany.
The money saved there went into tuning parts instead,
and soon the little crotch rocket had an "SS 70" motor.
5 speed, high compression, bigger valves, ported, hotter "yoshi" cam, etc etc,
with downdraft Dell´orto carb, exhaust cut-off and plate with tubes welded on,
in "Rocket 3" style.............cloud9
Paint job, pinstripes, chrome, twisted Z handlebar, 4:00-10 tires and so on.
Was doing almost 60mph, which was both fun & scary with that chassis & brakes.

Today there is a whole scene and market for new tuning parts,
and if you want to soup-up your horizontal-cylinder Honda single,
be it in a DAX, Monkey or SS 50, you might try :
http://www.monkeybike.co.uk/
http://www.monkeyrun.co.uk/
and follow the links there
With up to 175cc and ~20~30hp, these things are little monsters !

Cheers,
Benni

Surely the first thing any sixteen year-old did when they got their 'ped was de-restrict it? I know I did with my RD50M!

Benni, when i had a Honda SS50 ZK1, i got so fed up with the local Suzukis and Fantics beating me, often with a gear or 2 to go, that i got a Honda 90cc engine and fitted that, instead of the 2.5 bhp original!
With the head gas-flowed and a bigger carb., it had about 12 bhp, which kinda stuffed the lot of them royally!

ok it was 1990 before i hit the grand old age of 16 but i remember my DT50mx which was brand new on my 16th birthday and within a couple of months had become a DT63, DT65 then with the help of old DT80 parts a DT95 hehe

35mph became nearer 70mph and was totally bonkers.. and i loved it... biggrin

ahh memories of Autisa (whatever the spelling) big bore kits, gianelli and DEP sport pipes, Hi-Tech Reeds and the obligatory jack-up kit that meant my feet dangled down the side of the bike and on the stand it sat at a very dodgy angle..

Brakes? Standard... Tires? Bald as a coot. haha

Sorry gang just having a trip down memory lane... hehe

The Honda SS90 (!) used to do almost 80 mph, which sort of ruined every FS1E owner's day!
