Ive just spotted this on Ebay

Not really suprising it didn't sell, I'm not even keen on the colour!

Some brave person, put in an offer of £200, slightly optimistic considering the asking price.

Fair enough it may be rare, Ive certainly never seen one before, but £1100?

Im aiming on building a collection of the best Rally Drivers like Makinnen, Gronholm, Loeb, Burns & McRae. Some of the Burns and McRae stuff is going up in price and Im a little shocked that I will have to pay £50 for a proper 555 Livery Impreza driven by McRae, but over a grand for a 1:43 scale model

All the more reason to get hold of a plain model and apply some bought/homemade decals yourself.

It really is incredible what people will pay.

Print them yourself and dunno! Maybe strip and repaint a cheaper model variant that isn't a McRae/Burns car?

I sold off my collection of 1:43 Minichamps models last year and made money on all of them. I paid £14.99 for them all, as an example I sold a Porsche identical to that one barring the stickers for £78, I sold a McLaren F1 GTR for £101. People do it because there is money to be made.

More the fool for paying those kind of prices.

I use eBay to buy all my models now, but I never pay over the retail price. Patience can pay hugely in the buyers favour. Don't get caught up in the idiots who'll pay anything for a piece of metal. Leave it and await the next one.

I've done this now on a particular model I'm after. In the past year there have been 3 examples appear on eBay in Mint Condition. Retailed when released around the £50 mark so I will not pay more. All three have gone over, but from my expereince another one will turn up that I can get for a bargain, its a waiting game...

It does pay off, I got a stunning model that retailed for £159.99 on release some 10 years ago, and I waited and waited and finally got one last year, inc P+P for under £50 - Mint Condition too Best buy so far on eBay for me

eBay is all about playing the game - don't be fooled into these over inflated prices that some push to sell their cars for, and don't follow the idiots who are happy to pay those prices either, just walk away from the bidding and take your time.

As someone said above, something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay, so do your homework, find out the original retail price and never pay over the odds. Remember also that all this talk of limited edition diecast models from the likes of Minichamps, Autoart, Hotwheels etc etc is total bullshite! Producing a model in it's 100's or 1000's in my mind does not make a limited edition. Under 100 maybe, less than 50 most certainly, so be warned.

Also a word of warning to buyers, if someone says very rare in the listing, just do a quick check and you'll be surprised how many others are being sold. It pays to do your homework, like anything in this crazy world, and if you work at it then it will pay off for you.

Good advice that!

Ive been playing the waiting game on Ebay as, like you pointed out, a lot of people tend to go nuts and pay over the odds for something, especially when the seller adds the word "Rare"

Funny thing is, according to Ebay, I now have a collection of very rare and sought after Del Prado racing car collection pieces which I paid something like £3 for

I look through the "others" sections and see what people have advertised as unbranded, just to see what bargains are about.

Im quite happy today because I finally found a 1992 Shell promotions, Maisto 1:24 Jaguar XJ220 which I used to have as a kid, but sadly lost over the years.

It might not be the most detailed or sophisticated diecast model in the world (remember, it is 16 years old!) but it felt soo good to finally have it back in my collection

Oh indeed I put all mine on ebay with a 99p start and I was staggered by how much they went for.
