Why is nothing ever simple?
Discussion
Hi all,
Finally managed to track down a Wooden steering wheel (cheers Johnathan) and thought I would pop it on this afternoon as I have break in my schedule.Every time I seem to undertake any car based task it is never anywhere near as simple as I think it is going to be, today appears to be no exception. I managed to round off the very last hex screw on my existing steering wheel
(they were really soft screws though!)
So........ does anyone have any advice on removing the bolt please?
Utter ball ache, but it is going to make my interior look very tasty!!

Try hammering a slightly bigger allen key in, usually an imperial one.
If that won't work because of the sizes, try drilling the head off with a drill the same size as the hole. When the head comes off the steering wheel should lift off, this will leave a bit of thread to get some mole grips or pliers on.
If this fails the next option is to drill out the allen screw making sure you only use the correct tapping size. Then tap it out.

I can sympathise with the thread title - yesterday 'my' technician at NIMAG called me to enquire about the immobilizer as he wanted to fire up the rebuilt engine for the first time, at which point he'd spent 1.5-2 hours putting the ignition distributor back together after it disintegrated while trying to pull the old rotor off (shaft was rusted solid). Then he called back to say that at his first attempt, injector 1 had opened as soon as the ignition was on and flooded the whole
ing plenum...
He's putting it back in the warehouse now as he ran out of allocated time again...
Ams sure the bill will be

Why would that happen then?

'Zactly - the 'what' as per the above indeed, but the 'why'?
Well bluntly... Fooked wiring / badly stored inj / crap in fuel lines / worn inj...
Until you verify the signal is flashing, you don't know whether to strip the injectors or look in the lickie bits? Main point was, I'd be surprised if your mech had identified no1 as being the problem without checking the signal- so I reckon he will know whether it is the inj or the lectrics, which will cut out a lot of speculation

Well, whatever it is it'lll have to wait until a new gap in the TVR garage's workshop schedule has been found. Probably for the best too, given the workshop time spent on the latest setbacks.

Just briefy back to the original thread, thanks for the advice much appreciated. Ended up drilling it off relatively easily.
Fog66- I used the term "sourced" loosely, what I mean is I spent the last few months checking out Ebay and the Ph classifieds on a daily basis. One will turn up eventually.... and just to show that good things happen to those who wait.....

That interior looks the muts nuts - reminds me of one of those classy retro powerboats they make in Italy (can't remember the name though, sorry!).Fog66- I used the term "sourced" loosely, what I mean is I spent the last few months checking out Ebay and the Ph classifieds on a daily basis.
